You've already made up your mind that you're right, justified, and correct. I'm sure when a LEO catches you using it on other drivers, they'll inform you otherwise... assuming you get the chance and don't encounter somebody that is having a bad day with a short fuse and just runs you off the road.
You've already made up your mind that you're right, justified, and correct.

Thanks for your concern for me.

Search for a "Rear Window LED Car Sign" and put whatever message you want. Not saying it won't still piss some tailgating jerk off but it won't get you a ticket when you find out that jerk is a LEO.

I have thought of that too. It would have to swing down for use and back up, otherwise it would block the driver's view out the back. Also, It would need a slew of different expressions, such as:

BACK OFF MAN!
TURN OFF BRIGHTS!
CALM DOWN CUPCAKE
U R A DOUCHE
THE JERK STORE CALLED....

If the OP is truly worried about getting the attention of vehicles approaching from the rear, no license plate frame style light is going to do anything. How can I say this? One of my work trucks has a full width Whelen LED bar on the roof. (The same model used by the State Police here.) Let's just say it's bright enough to cause somebody to lapse into an epileptic seizure. You'd be amazed at how many people don't even appear to see it.

It's got to be aimed at the proper height. Perhaps it's too high off the truck?

Trust me, it's aimed correctly and is not too high on the truck. (You are correct though in that proper aim is critical.) Ask any emergency services member about warning lights and their effect (or lack thereof) on a disturbing percentage of the motoring public. In short, you could have a flashing supernova on your vehicle and some idiot on Instagram will still plow straight into you.

Ok ok, blinding idiots behind may not be the most forgiving attitude we can have on the road. I finally was able to install the LPR last night and it's great for it's intended purpose. I agree, further escalating bad behavior on the road isn't good for anyone, I will not be installing a dedicated LPR to punish less than civilized behavior.

Thanks all for those who chimed in.
