VSC/Traction Control lights

Just had my '04 4Runner pass the smog test, why is it that every time gauge is plugged into OBD2 port it sets off the 2 dash lights?

pretty sure it has something to do with resetting the 0-point calibration (or so I remember reading). Park it on a level surface and do the 0 point calibration and see if that helps.

Just curious.. how have you been getting them to go off, if it hasn't been the 0 point cal?

Some older testers do this, has to do with the cabling pinout I think. My first gen Scangauge will set the lights off on the 4r but a cheap BT one from Amazon is fine.

This problem only happens with '03-'04 4runner.

If this is a ScanGauge you need to force it to read in ISO mode. Instructions are in the booklet that comes with it. The ABS computer and Yaw rate /Accel sensors go wacky when SG communicates using newer OBD protocol.

Force it into ISO mode then switch everything off, unplug the cable at the back/side of the SG , turn car on and plug cable back in. If it's still blinking you need to do Zero-Point calibration to reset yaw rate / accel sensors back to zero. Lots of info on here about that.

You should be good to go after that. Just remember you have to force ISO mode anytime you disconnect the Scanguage.
