Confused on what exhaust to use and possible ideas
Hi all. Here is my dilemma. Just got a '08 v8 4runner in Shadow mica. I'm replacing the exhaust , not using OE style. I've looked into Gibson, URD, having a custom set up done, etc... listened to the sound clips on youtube for the gibson and was not impressed, Flowmaster does not make anything, borla discontinued in 2015, TRD does not fit right, URD is out of stock. I went to do a custom yesterday and I wanted it done to copy the borla but they wanted more than I could spend. I have the magnaflow on my other 4runner but it's not what I'm looking for in sound.
Anyone have the URD as I have not heard that one. I would love to get the dual borla system or at least the tailpipes and have the ft part of system made. I do have a TRD system off my old '08 v6 that got totalled but it would have to be modified to fit the V8 and im not sure how it will sound.
Any thoughts?

Put a Walker replacement on, it's a little louder than stock, but not much, weighs considerably less, is reasonably priced and installs in 30 minutes.

Does any V8 exhaust actually sound bad?
Could have just the muffler cut off from the TRD and welded in place of your current muffler. Would be cheap but wouldn't be a dual system.

The system from cat back is gone. Nothing to save. I already have the URD y pipe installed.

I'm pretty happy with my setup. Best looking tip on the market too.
Gibson's tips look stupid, IMO.
The Vibrant ultra quiet resonator made the drone tolerable... But I want to get a 1/4 wave resonator to target the worst of the drone a bit more precisely.

Interesting, I will have to keep that in mind if I ever decide to redo the exhaust...
I looked into it many years ago and ultimately the droning annoyed me too much on many of the set-ups I saw or talked to guys on the trail. I want something that sounds nice at idle (nothing too loud or obnoxious) but when you romp on it hard it gives that lovely V8 roar; but doesn't drone on regularly highway driving. Not being able to find anything at the time I just gave up and settled on chopping the resonator off after the axle to dump down.

Dirty Deeds Industries BAMF helmholtz resonator provides this. Keith at Dirty Deeds can adjust the aggressiveness to whatever you like.
I still have the rear OEM resonator. The truck is very quiet at idle/cruise, but sounds like hell's broke loose when above quarter throttle

I threw a Gibson setup on my V6 and really like the look and sound. It was affordable and easy to install.

I installed the magnaflow overland exhaust and I love it because it sounds throatier without the droning over long drives. The higher clearance design is nice too.

I put a Walker resonator/tailpipe on my rig, sadly it only lasted 3 years. I was able to weld in a patch but not everyone has that option. Buy quality.

Hi all. I ended up using the TRD exhaust I had. I just had the ft pipe modified for the v8. It sounds exactly like the magnaflow. I also have a new gibson exhaust with the black ceramic tailpipe waiting just in case.

It’s hard to mess up an exhaust on the V8. I have a super 10 and custom SS cat back setup. I love it, but not for your grandmas neighbourhood.

Is there a lot of stainless steel options? I live in rust belt and my y pipe is trashed. Wanted to go all stainless up to the exhaust manifold. Like the magnaflow overland look, care more about stainless than sound. The stainless cats cost twice what the magnaflow cat back costs lol.
