Why would all but Front L/R #2 speakers on 6 speaker system go out?

I have a 6 speaker audio system (non-JBL) on a 2008 T4R and as I was cranking up the volume all the speakers went quiet except the small Front L and R #2 speakers in the front doors.
-I checked the Radio 1 and 2 fuses and they are good.
-I checked the Balance, Fade, PM, and that is not the cause.
-I swapped the radio out with another unit that I was told was bench tested to be good, but I had the same results with only the Front L and R #2 working.

Looking at the wiring diagrams for the 6 speaker system the speakers are a direct connect to the radio with nothing in-line that might cause an open circuit.

Any suggestions on where else to look or something else to try?

You probably just blew out the speaker by distortion. Wonder what radio was this? Was loudness on? Must be playing pretty loud to blow it up. I still haven't blew up the stock speakers on the other ride. But I tuned the sound and filters out was frequency get sent to the spekers. I usually do 80 to 125 for stock speakers.

I thought maybe the internal amp went bad, so I tried the other unit and had the same results. No external amp in this system that I know of.

So if one speakers goes, they all might stop working? I could test each speaker to see if there is a bad one. Doesn't explain why the 2 small front speakers are still working, unless they are somehow isolated from the rest of the speakers.

It's the base factory radio (11823 on the faceplate). Looks like this:

see if you can hear anything in the fm, am and cd. if not open each door panel and remove the speakers and see if the cone are stuck, usually if its stuck, its blown.

Thx for the suggestion. I checked and there is no sound from any of the 4 main speakers in fm, am or cd. Sound only from the 2 small front door speakers. I'll have time tomorrow to start pulling the speakers and testing them 1 at a time.

I did confirm with a bench test tonight that the extra radio I have is working, so that narrows it to a problem somewhere within the 4 main speakers or their circuit. The wiring diagram (below) shows this is a parallel circuit, except for the Front L and R #2 speakers (called Squawkers on the diagram), which are each in a series circuit with the Front #1 speakers. Only the squawkers (which are the working speakers) have a capacitor.

pretty sure you just blew out the woofers, for stock upgrade that dont break the bank with stock radio and or aftermarket radio without hooking up an amp, i always suggest the alpine type s, you can get a complete set off ebay for cheap 150 or less for front components and rear coax. if you want a nicer sounding speakers, got to go focal, but they are little more out of everyone price range, but a direct fit and sound even better.

If the PO had a system in it and spliced the wires for an amp, or did a poor job of rewiring in the stock speakers back in... maybe the patch job wasn't very good?

Have you tried taking one of the working speakers and hooking it in place of one of the non-working speakers. And vice versa???

Not yet, but that would be one way to verify the speakers work.

When I swapped radios with an extra that I have, the wiring all looked original with no sign of an external amp every being installed. I haven't pulled the door panels yet to inspect the speakers so don't know if they are all original.

Solved!

The speakers were bad. Hard to believe they all went bad at the same time. Replaced the L and R rear speakers today with a pair of Infinity Reference REF-6522ix from a locally owned Sound Store. Looked for the Alpine S series locally, but no luck. Fronts next week.

How did this go? I have a 2007 T4R and the same thing happened. All the speakers stopped working all at once and the only sound I have are the front door tweeters. These are the premium audio jbls so I guess it doesn't matter either way.
