V8 guys exhaust manifold solutions

So as with many V8 4Runner owners, I too have the dreaded exhaust manifold crack and the P0420 and P0430 codes. Yes, you can go and try replacing the sensors etc. but ultimately the Runner's catalytics are a problem. Mine smell of course and sooo...

Has anyone looked at some new Ebay listings for the integrated exhaust manifold and upstream catalytics? These appear to be a new thing from a US exhaust fabrication place, so not sure about quality and fit. What does the community think?

And you can google or ebay, didn't want to post a direct link.

There's no way for anyone to comment on what manifolds you're referring too unless you post a link, there nothing wrong with posting a eBay link on the forum!

I put doug thorley shorties on mine with welded on high flow cats like many others here. Its pretty sweet but expensive. Its a pain for some mechanics to install. My guy said he wishes he had just pulled the engine out and did the work there.

If you want to keep it cheap, try just filling the holes with some cheap apoxy cement.

Yeah a very expensive solution. My exhaust place says aftermarket stuff doesn't always fit properly, so lots of fiddling around to make stuff fit. It's one solution for sure.

The ebay stuff is here:

Thanks for the link.

I don't see any of the ones I looked at saying these manifolds/cats assemblies are actually made in the USA, most do say they are located in the USA but leave out where they are actually manufactured.

Most seems to have a 10 years warranty which is good, I doubt that even a OEM warranty would match that.

As far as fitment goes, who knows, hopefully someone will have bought them and will comment,

I had a cracked RHS manifold, right at the #2 cylinder. I couldn't find a better solution than getting another OEM unit. Should last 100k miles or so. It wasn't all that expensive to have it installed. It's sooooo much quieter now, especially at startup.

Manifolds

I replaced my exhaust manifolds on my FJ due to rust issues. I bought a cheap pair with the CAT already welded on because I didn't want to deal with the welding ( I could have welded the CATS on, I just didn't have the time to do that). So, about two years later I got the P0430 & P0420 codes ( CAT Inefficient). I had kept my original rusted manifolds and decided to try using them again to clear the codes (after replacing all the O2 sensors). It has been about 9 months since and no more codes.....something to think about when replacing the original manifolds with cheap stuff.

One thing I've learned over time owning used vehicles is to be careful about costs on unscheduled maintenance items. I've got some time here to ponder. The truck drives great at this point and I've got a second vehicle for summer.

Eventually I'll deal with it and the most likely option is to have my exhaust fabricator work on it and weld the crack.
