Lowered 4th Gen

Lowered my 4th Gen Galactic Gray with Bronze Black Rhino wheels. I understand that these vehicles aren't supposed to be lowered, ideally. I actually wanted to do a slight lift, however my garage door prevents this. So, I've decided to go the other way with it. Finally pulled the trigger.
To each is own right?! and im digging it!

So are you gunna make us ask how you did it? How much lower on each corner?

One of these but V8 and supercharged (and AWD) would be fun.

Now remove the roof rack.

Ha! actually, Im sure ill get even more flamed for it, but oh well..

I order new Moog springs and cut them, just in case I didn't like it or had issues, I can just put the factory ones back on. Bled a few drops from the Xreas on each side so it isn't too stiff. Rides better after bleeding a few drops.
It actually rides pretty smooth. I did remove the front bump stops.

I went this route because it was the cheapest route to see how the ride was after lowering. Im now going to get some aftermarket shocks, camber kit (currently @ -.9 degree camber)
Lowered approximately 2" on all corners. I didn't measure prior to dropping really. sigh

It did rub because of my tire size 265/65/17 and the wide wheels 17x9.5 +18. So I re-drilled some new holes in the mounts of the mud flaps to pull them forward. Used a heat gun to heat the mud flaps and press them back to cool and form in place out of the way. No rubbing issues

Pretty cool. Wish I took pics of my folks' GX470 with the bottom spring perch rusted off the left front shock, that corner was pretty low LOL.

Can't remember offhand what forum it was on, but someone went to SOS Performance, Tundra Racing, Stoptech Big Brake Kit Rear Disc to lower his 4th-gen utilizing a sleeve type setup based off their Tundra lowering kit up front but I don't remember what he used in back.

There is/was another guy here who road-raced his 4th-gen, just very mildly lowered though.

I REALLY like that actually. Very "bulldog" looking, kinda short and stout...

It's ALMOST enough to make me want to keep mine now. Transitioning from the V to the 4R is rough sometimes, I feel like one day I'm gonna take that thing around a corner and forget what I'm in and you'll find me on my roof

Time to stock up on extra 4R on the property.
Cannot wait for the increased value when the stance/hellaflush crowd migrate over to make this platform even more popular.

Looks pretty cool!

Need a shot from regular standing eye level to get the full effect.

As someone else posted, maybe take off the rack. I'd lose the nerf bars...maybe put ON stock running boards???? Also, some stock 18" wheels & tires would help the look.

Comparison

Looks good. A neat pic might be yours next to a standard-height or slightly lifted one.

Came here expecting to hate it, but you're right. A lowered AWD V8 would be like a rally car in a fat suit. Certainly more original than the usual 5100s and OEM take off wheels from another model! Would be cool if a company like Eibach got on board with a quality lowering spring.

+5 internet points for going against the grain

Looks great. I previously wanted the lowered look for my old 3rd gen. Here's the rig I liked back then in 2003. Drooled over the TE37s and look except I was a freshman so I had no monies. Actually funny story but these TE37s were sold to the guy that ended up selling them to me. Good times for sure.

Now that I have my tuner cars I'd rather have the lifted rig for its own purposes but I can still appreciate the hard work done by others on theirs. Did you see this guy's rig? Hardcore setup.

Tony Rispolis 2003 Toyota 4Runner

I used to get flamed for questions about lowering but more power to you for sure. If you want proper lowering springs though, burtman industries has a lead on lowering springs from Japan. They love their lifted and lowered SUVs over there.

Japan Battlez Titanium Lowering Springs

Just in case they get bouncy in the future or anything. Would also be good info for anyone else out there that's looking. You should also make this your build thread. Post more pics on how you modified everything.
