WHOO noise from front of 2006 V8

2006 V8 4R Sport about 169K miles

A soft WHOO noise continuous with RPM - even at idle soft but noticeable.

Fan? - Idler pulley? - Serp belt? - Water Pump? - Alternator? - A/C comp?

Noise was on and off, but now it is always on - sounds like the bearing of the water pump if I had to guess - but not loud.

Does not seem linked to alternator charging or power steering.

Ideas?

John

Most likely the brake booster.

Electronic Brake Noise

Belt

Why not take the belt off and see what happens, that will tell you if any of the spinning acc. is the culprit.

If you rev the motor does the WHOO change tempo?

Check all your vacuum lines as well. Vacuum leaks can sound like ghosts!

Yes - noise chages pitch and follows RPM

If you can get a video of the noise I’d love to help identify it! Hopefully we can track it down. Keep us updated!

Seems to be coming from Throttle Body area. I did hear sort of a small "gulp" of air occur once while the noise was occurring.

Is there a butterfly type of valve in the Throttle Body that might be catching and needs a spray of carb cleaner on the shaft?

I wonder if this could potentially be part of your Secondary Air Injection System starting to act up. @slyfox75 - does this sound similar?

I found this clip regarding the Secondary Air Injection System noise:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3Zoc2eqxqo

I will concentrate on analyzing that SAIS system, as the WHOO noise does happen more on cold engine when it is cold and damp outside, and eventually does go away after some driving.

Maybe the WHOO noise is OK and is creating a little harmonic noise when the SAIS pump is on until things warm up.

I don't have a Check Engine light on, so no failure codes at this time - yet ...

If it's the SAIS, it with stop instantly after about 20-30 secs. And should not be heard on a warm start.
