Future Owner of a 4th Gen...
Hey, I'm looking into purchasing a 04-06 Toyota 4Runner but I am not sure which model to look at for my needs.
I want all the luxury and toys from the Limited but don't want to deal with the XREAS when it comes to lifting it. Is there any solutions to this? Spacers? I"m looking for a 3" lift and stuffing it with 33" tires.
I'll be honest...I'm not going to be off-roading the vehicle....I love the look and stance of a lifted vehicle. (flame all you want...lol)
Or should I just scrap the idea of the Limited and go for the SR5 or Sport?
What are some of the difference between them?
I really have my heart set on the Limited but if there's a lot of hassle lifting it...then I have to reconsider and look at the other models.
Any input would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Freddy

sports are the only ones with xreas standard
just go to your local dealerships and look at the used 4runners they have, make your decision based on what is available.

I believe in Canada, based on the posts of other Canadian members, Canadian Toyotas don't come with options. They are all equipped the same way. So if it's a Canadian Limited 4th gen, all of them will have X-REAS. X-REAS is optional on US Limited models and the vast majority of them do not have X-REAS.
Spacer lifts are the only way to lift a X-REAS equipped 4Runner. You'll need to remove the X-REAS system if you want custom springs or coil-overs.
There's more info on ChaosEdition.com on lifts.

So this kit should be ok with the XREAS system?
The 3" front and 2" rear lift.

What should I look for, if it has the "air" suspension?
Is there a button?

Yes, that will be ok for the V6 Limited. I don't know if the Canadian V8 Limited comes with the rear air suspension or not. In the US, you can only find rear air suspension on V8 Limiteds with X-REAS. You can have X-REAS without rear air suspension though.

Yes, there is a button or two (I think it's one for on/off and another for height control) on the center console behind the shifter where the DAC button is located.

Xreas with Rear Air Suspension
Do a search...
In short, I have the Limited V8 with Xreas and Rear Air Suspension. It was a special order which was cancelled by seomone else. Anyways, I heard that most of the Limited V8s in Canada has Xreas and Rear Air as standard. Lifting the Xreas is no problem with spacers but there are modifications to make for the rear spacers if you have the Rear Air Suspension. PM Me... I can let you know of a shop in Canada that has successfully lifted a 4th Gen with Xreas and Rear Air. Since no one here in california can do it, Do me a favor and get the rear spacer modified for me and ship it to me...
Thanks!

You can check out my rig - it's for sale. 04 sr5 4x4 3in lift and some little mods. Only 40,000 on the clock - all flat Florida miles. Never in the mud or swamps. 20 grand take it.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Here is another pix from this summer. You can see its got a spoiler and I wired the lower lights to work witht he break and running lights - the reflector mod. It's a V6. Still have all the stock springs if needed.
I feel ya on the stance and not wheeling it- should have come from the factory with the 3 in lift. Too nice to thrash. I do run it in 4x4 once a month. Have all service paperwork and park it inside everynight and detailed every other month - she's a queen.
Here she from the back with the bike hauler.

Is it true that with spacer lifts it will be a rougher ride. If so, how much more costly is it to remove the X-REAS system and install custom springs or coil-overs? I'm interested because I'm currently in the market for a '08 SE which comes equipped with the X-REAS and sometime down the road (maybe even within the first year of ownership) I'd definitely be interested in lifting it.

Key - I wish you had seen it as well. Not time sensitive so it will sell when it sells. Sure will make someone a great rig. If I was buying a used car I would want it from a car geek like me. I should market it out west or up north - 4x4 is less popular down here in Floi-duh.
