Depending on the condition of the rest of the frame structure you might be able to hit up the local Pick a Part or check Marketplace for one being parted out. Judging by just what I can see in the single pic, I would say the days of this vehicle being road worthy are done over. Just my .02 YMMV?

My old 3rd gen frame rusted away, too. It was also a midwest vehicle. In all other aspects, it was in great shape but I had to let it go. I have a 4th gen now and was very careful to buy one that had a good frame and have subsequently treated it with Woolwax. Really the one thing that kills these T4R's is frame rust.

I'm not sure why Toyota dealers or other shops don't apply or recommend fluid film spray while they are working under there, probably the mess it would make on their equipment. Ultimately its up the the driver to maintain their rig.

Other than fluid film or similar product once yearly, inspect the frame before purchasing, and every year you own it. That could prevent a total loss.

The panhard bar does not prevent body roll. That what the sway bar does. The panhard keeps the axle under the truck. It should not be driven without a panhard at all. Not even slowly.

If youve got a mechanic you trust, you can ask him about the overall safety of the frame and if just that area thats bad or the whole thing.

Lots of off roaders remove the stabilizer bar for more flex. It just does cause a little more body roll with cornering.

If the rest of the vehicle will pass inspection, Id just remove the stabilizer bar and start saving for your next vehicle

You can add it to a class action suit if it makes you feel better, but after 15-20 years, its not going anywhere and probably isnt worth your time or energy
I think you're talking about the sway bar removal. The panhard needs to be there. It locates the axle under the vehicle. The rear control arms, the drive shaft, and the coils are not designed to hold the axles position under later loads. It will fail.

Replace the entire rear axle and it should get you back on the road. We had a 3rd gen that did the exact same thing and we ended up selling it. We really should have replaced the rear axle and kept it.

If the panhard bar rusted off of the rear axle I can only imagine what the remainder of the components look like under there. OP already confirmed that its really bad. I doubt it worth the money to pay someone to replace the axle alone. Sure, it would probably get it road worthy for a little longer but ultimately I don't see it lasting very much.

As mentioned it is no longer safe to drive. Looks pretty bad under there but if you want to make sure that it's time to go you can lay on the ground and rap on all the flat frame surfaces with something pointy like the claw side of a hammer. Go for the bottom center sections especially just behind the front wheels and in front of the rear ones. If you can't break through then it may be worth putting a used rear axle in to get you the awhile longer. My guess is you will break through in multiple spots. You could also ask your mechanic to check the rest of the frame for perforation. I'd hate to condemn it until you know it's really done for but all things look that way.

Yeah my bad that's correct. I must have been pretty stoned. Thanks for the correction 🤠

I know that Texas is a long way from New York but a local salvage yard has a 2006 limited v8 4wheel drive that is totally rust free. The body has heavy damage down the driver side but the frame is excellent and still has the factory paint on it for the most part. I changed the frame on my 2004 a couple of months ago and it was not too bad.
He is asking $1500 for the complete rolling chassis with engine, trans, transfer case and suspension.
Might be a long shot option.
