You can add too much or too little and still not run right. The sight glass gives you the correct volume after putting in the weight prescribed by the FSM. Which is where you can find this page. You want #6

so after replacing all the orings and the dryer, i vaccumed the system.

put 1 can and a little more than half of the second can in and a/c sounded like it struggled to kick on while i was doing this. my high side got to about 50 once i put the first can in and the highest it got was about 100.

my inspection glass is a little foggy and has green around it so can't really tell if anything is flowing or visible in there.

Fan Speed?

What is everyone's fan speed like? Mine only blows enough to really feel it on the setting next to the MAX speed. I've never been in another 4th gen to compare so I'm wondering if that's normal or not.

It's normal, first 2 speeds barely move any air at all, actually the only one I ever use is high.

I run mine in low because 3 & 4 are loudly obnoxious. But even on low it does move air unless its hot outside then I use 3 until its comfortable. Is your fan worn out? The fan cage may be full of dirt, lessening your air output. Or worse, home to rodents who made your vents into a mobile condominium.

Sounds like a bad compressor. The high side should be 150 +/- depending on ambient temp. The expansion valves are pretty reliable in these trucks.

thats what a friend suggested. since i'll be replacing it might as well replace the old condensor as well. only thing left to replace at that point would be the evaporator (hopefully dont have to anytime soon).

anything else i'm missing???

does the condensor line being cold and sweating signify anything??? just noticed it, running the a/c but a/c isn't cold at all.

Are the larger AC lines cold or cool? If cool then no, if icy cold then look at the heater blend door allowing heat into the vents.

my high side all the way from the firewall to the condensor is cold, sweating at some spots. the low side is just engine warm, and at the condensor connection is actually hot, like to the touch.

still sound like the compressor???

Sounds like a dying compressor. Its working only not so well. So you want to replace it before it self destructs. If it seizes, you will have to flush the whole system. I dont think rebuilds last very long. Id almost try to find a compressor from a salvage yard before buying a new chinese or rebuilt unit. Anything oem used is better than cheaper new stuff.

went ahead and ordered the denso unit from rockauto, as well as a new condensor, the valves for the low/high connections, and a freakin o2 sensor, changed the drivers side and now the passengers threw a code. so ordered the parts should be here in a couple days.

So basically same steps as before, once i have everything connected. vaccumm for a good 45 mins, close the lines, turn the truck on and than open up the high side and add freon..

Rockauto listing showed factory oiled for the denso compressor I bought, box mentions nothing of oil, should I be worried?
