plasti dip spray or spray paint for rims

hey everyone!

I’m looking to paint the rims black on my 04 V8 4runner. I’ve found a few alternatives to buying new rims because that’s out of my budget. I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for regular spray paint versus plasti dip spray paint (longevity, look, quality, etc.). In the past, I used Rustoleum BBQ & Stove spray paint (gray for high temps) on letter decals and front/back bumper valences, and it’s held up well. Let me know. Thanks!

Yea - my question would be is what do you do with your 4r? Do you want to make it look nice and keep it nice or will it get beat up and youll need lots of touch up

If you generally dont off road, dont have a lot of salt on the roads, etc etc, id paint it. Chrisfix has a couple of good videos on youtube

If youre likely to get your wheels messed up and want to touch them up from time to time - id plastidip them. I plastidipped mine 4 years ago black and just touch them up 1-2 times per year

All you need to go off road is to be willing to get some scrapes and dents along the way

I plastidipped mine about a year ago and it’s held up well. I like that you can peel it off easily if you decide you don’t like it. It’s easy to touch up as well.

Oh ok. If they were bad then I would say yes to either but to make the paint adhere properly you would have to scuff the rim and that would ruin the finish. I personally would find a cheap set that is not as good and refinish those. This way if you get sick of the color choice then you still have the original rims in good shape.

BTW what color is your 4runner? Color choice on rims makes a huge difference.

My suggestion. Plasti-dip first, spray paint over the dip. Change colors anytime!

See my old post. Weekend Mods and Plasti-dip/spray paint...

the color is midnight blue/gray. I painted the decals matte black and liked the look so I figured maybe the black rims would look good too
