Been away awhile have some questions on my 4th Gen

So, I've been away from here awhile. New Hobbies and life (kids) got in the way. My 2005 currently has 270K miles on it. We recently sold my wife's Rx350 and I gave her my like new (36K miles) 2017 GX460. So now I'm back to driving my 4runner. It has been relegated to grocery and hardware store runs these last couple years. I will be getting something new in a few years (hopefully one of the yet to be released new 4runners) so I need this 2005 to last me about another 50K-60K miles.

Aside from some obvious aging she runs great still. In the last year I have had a family friend who is an ace mechanic work on it. He recently did the following:

1) The timing chain was inspected, Rear Dif replaced, Engine tuned up (including new spark plugs), radiator replaced, ac system checked, and new shocks, new battery, Having said that, she needs a little bit of aesthetic work done.

2) I am needing new headlight housings as mine are beyond repair. Thought about getting these. They seem reasonable and from my research on here seem to be the best bet. Thoughts?

2005 TOYOTA 4RUNNER 4.0L V6 Headlamp Assembly | RockAuto

3) As far as Headlight bulbs go, ive been looking at LEDs but aren't they illegal unless they are OEM, which in 2005 they weren't? Should I run the risk of getting pulled over with LEDs? I dont want to bother with HID's so if LED's are a no go, are the best standard Halogens still the Silverstar Ultras?

4) Also, My front bumper is sagging just slightly, im guessing I need to replace some of the retainer clips. Where can I get those?

5) My interior is decent but I have the typical splitting dashboard issue that was prevalent with these year models. Any thoughts on remedying that?

6) Is there anything else I need to get looked at? My mechanic friend told me once he completed those repairs Id be good for another 200K miles. But Im sure he didn't think of everything.

Sorry alot of questions and I appreciate any feedback I can get.

i've got the rock auto tyc headlight casings for my 05 and they look and fit just like oem. the parts were 20640601 and 20640501. one of them leaked over the winter but its easy enough to fix. my original casings were totally shot with yellow haze over them and the new ones really freshened up the front of the vehicle. i also did my rear hatch struts with ones from rock auto and they weren't as good as oem. there's a few threads on that. but i like the tyc casings and would take the gamble again.

for any tiny clips or bulbs i usually go to the dealer and it's always the cheapest. if you can find an exploded view diagram of the bumper with the parts, and the clips have a part number on them, the dealer can get them in. i had them order a fastener for the plastic intake cover thing on the engine, as well as the little button you push on the back seat to make it go down. ordering that type of stuff through the dealer was both cheaper and more convenient than anything else i could find.

2. You could also switch them out for the 2006-2009 headlight housings and get the benefit of a projector headlight instead of a reflector. Those are probably fine as far as the older look go, just be aware most of the cheap ones don't hold up long term like the OEM did.

3. Absolutely under no circumstances should you install an LED or HID bulb into a reflector designed for halogen bulbs. You'll be blinding everyone in front of you and still not be able to see shit.

Based on info from the giant tacomaworld bulb thread, the Tungsram Nighthawk line of bulbs are a solid choice for safely increased output and are usually only $20-30 a set.

4. Here's the Part #s for the left and right bumper supports.

52116-35090 2003-2005 Toyota 4Runner - Support

5. I've got nothing for this lol

6. Do you have a 2wd or 4x4 4Runner? If it's 4x4, don't forget the transfer case & front diff. And probably greasing your driveshafts if they've been neglected.

Might want to check your brake calipers for frozen pistons as they will wreck your gas mileage if they drag.

2) Have you tried resurfacing your current headlights? Hard to beat OEM and mine came out quite good using the YT method that shows putting a clear coat on after sanding. Chrisfix maybe?

6) Exercise that spare tire winch although probably not an issue in your area.

Since everyone else already responded to your other questions, I'll tackle this one. I bought a coverlay dash cover this summer and am really happy with the results. The color and texture perfectly matches the rest of the dash, sits nice and flush and doesn't squeak or rattle. Anyone that rides in my 4Runner doesn't even notice it, which is how it should be.

Here is a link to the exact one that I bought: Coverlay Black Dash Cover 11-308-BLK Fits 03-09 Toyota 4Runner w/o Dash Speakers | eBay

If your dash has the JBL speaker, I'd highly recommend removing the speaker and installing the coverlay without the speaker cutout. I originally bought a dash cover with the speaker cutout and couldn't get that area to sit flush. Removing the speaker takes 2 minutes and mine was blown anyway.

I would also recommend the CoverLay dash cover, but just an FYI the same one posted above can be bought about $66 cheaper on Rockauto, the saving won't be as much once you include shipping, it maybe just as much but I would check it out to see what the shipping cost is before spending over $200 for the dash cover on eBay.

Looks like shipping is $45 for it, still cheaper plus you can find 5% off coupons that bring it to $20 cheaper.
