Transmission Fluid for 2004 V6

I own a 2004 V6 4Runner SR5. The manual isn't clear and lists two separate transmission fluid types. I'm pretty sure mine is the 4 speed since I don't think it went to 5 speed until 2005 or 2006.

So do I use the Type IV transmission fluid?

2004 V6 does have the 4 speed, and does use Type IV ATF.

2004 V8 has the 5 speed and uses the WS ATF.

Yes most likely. Also if you have a transmission dipstick its Type IV.

If you want to know for sure, look at your gearshift.

If it says P R N D 3 2 1, you have a 4-speed.

P R N D 4 3 2 1 is a 5-speed.
