Easier 06+ headlight housing swap?

Have an 04 and I'm looking to use leds instead of the halogen bulbs, but the original housing with the reflectors would just blind everyone.

Can I just purchase something like this Amazon.com: SPEC-D TUNING Halo LED Chrome Housing Clear Lens Projector Headlights Compatible with 2003-2005 Toyota 4Runner Left + Right Pair Headlamps Assembly : Automotive to use with LEDs or do I need to do the full 06+ housing swap with the trim pieces etc?

(Also feeling some loss aversion since I also did the TRD pro grill swap using the 03-05 size so I'm hoping not to repurchase another grill to make it fit )

Edit: Seems I can't get the link right. Attaching a picture

Those should work. The important part is to have a projector instead of a reflector for the bulb to actually focus that light onto the road ahead of you.

I have those on my 2004. Got them about two years ago and they are working fine. No issues with water ingress, but they currently seem to be yellowing slightly. The "halos" are really weak, but it's purely cosmetic and not something I really care too much about.

The upper three LEDs on the driver side light died last year, I think the LED driver went bad. I tried contacting the manufacturer but never got a response. Seems to be common with this company from what I've seen. Again, not something I'm going to lose any sleep over.

I'm saving up money to eventually buy one of the LED retrofit headlights from TEQ Customs.

If I remember correctly, there’s just an inexpensive trim piece that needs to go under the housing. Do a search for the headlight swap and you’ll find a really good write up that lists the part number.
After that, you’ll be left with a small gap between that trim piece and your grill that isn’t really all that noticeable.

Stay far away from TEQ.

I had an order with them that was over a month late when it did eventually turn up. Zero communication from them during that time, and I got maybe one response for every 3 or 4 attempts to contact them via facebook/email/phone.

Once the order finally arrived, the headlights were a mess of sealant, one projector had been mounted crooked so the beam pattern was visibly tilted, and even maxing out the adjusters had the lights aimed too low to actually be safe to drive with.

I sent them back, and when I received them the second time a week+ later, both projectors were crooked and I still couldn't actually get both headlights aimed high enough to get close to the correct position.

At that point I sent them back again and had to initiate a chargeback with my bank to finally get a refund.

What a shame! I appreciate the heads up.

If you want prebuilt good projector headlights, check these guys out. Have not bought a set myself (yet) but once you get them on the phone they have great customer service.
