No - its too wide and will hit the UCA. when turning you will hit the fender liner and possibly the body mount chop.

265 is as wide as you can go safely, 275 is a gamble

32 inches is about as big as you can go stock - 255/75/17s, 265/70/17s, maybe 265 70 18

If the 4Runner has a 2” lift would 285/70/17s work?

It's the wheels/offset that's the problem, not the lift.

Adding the lift will just change when the tires collide with something; going straight, turning sharp/shallow, full stuff, etc. The suspension will still cycle along the same path.

Changing the wheel width and offset can bring about solutions and new/different problems.

You're going to have do some significant changes to stuff 33's. That extra 1" of width betweeon 265->285 adds some complication to getting the tire to stuff without rubbing anything along the way.

This. These 4th gens are very difficult to stuff big tires.
Then when you try to lift them to fit more tire the ride goes to shite because there's not enough suspension droop.
The wide tires and different wheel offsets can also ruin the turning radius which is one of my favorite things about this platform.

I have a set of 285/70r17 M/T tires on my 4th gen (not in my pic - those are 255/80r17) on 17x8” American Racing rims, 33” diameter.

I have a full 3” lift in the front, 2” in the rear, a 1” body lift, 1.25” wheel spacers and aftermarket UCAs. I also did the usual front wheel well/fender/sway bar trimming/mods, and a diff drop.

No rubbing on public roads yet, and I haven’t taken them off road yet.

When I had 32” tires, I had just a 2.5”/1.5” spacer lift with no body lift, and no issues.

Currently, I have 275/70/r17 and just realized the previous owner of my 4Runner put a 2” lift on it. There is no rubbing or any issues with current setup. I’m getting mixed messages from other forums and reading many threads. I wish I knew for sure if the extra 10mm to 285 would make such a big difference in rubbing issues. Someone is selling a brand new set for a really good price but I don’t want to take the plunge without knowing for certain if it will fit!! Dang!!
