Hide amber bulbs without going to LEDs

**This is not a post to dissuade you from using LEDs. I encourage you to mod per your own preferences! But if you're like me then check this out.

Personally I'm not a fan of LED bulbs in non-LED housings, especially in turn signals. Some LEDs refract poorly in reflector housings and don't fill the lens like a typical halogen bulb does. LEDs are also 2-3x the cost of halogen bulbs plus the price of resistors which I don't like splicing in.

That all being said, I hate seeing the amber bulbs in my chrome turn signal housings. I want my turn signals to flash amber but I don't want to use LEDs, so I bought a couple of these chrome amber bulbs! Part number 7440AST

These bulbs flash amber, but they are chrome when off so they blend right in to the housings. You can get similar bulbs for the front, 1156. I didn't get before-photos for the front but it's a similar clean look.

No hyperflash, no splicing in resistors, no refraction pattern issues. Just a clean chrome reflector.

Those are definitely better than amber bulbs. There used to be a company called “Stealth Bulbs” who used some special coating that was fully chrome when off and bright amber when on. It was substantially better than the Silverstar ones, but the company went out of business, likely because of LED technology.

Most of the silver coated regular bulbs have decreased or off color output.

As for LEDs, there are some crappy cheap ones out there, but some are more expensive and designed well. Resistors can also be plug & play with no tapping or cutting needed.
