V8 tuning w/ VF Tuner
Anyone doing any calibration work with VF tuner at all?
Looks like as of late 2022 the 2005+ V8 (VVTI) 4Runner models are supported.
I just ordered up a kit, and will be messing around with mine.

Now that the EPA has cracked down and you can't find O2 simulators anymore, definitely following this. Installed Doug Thorley headers and Y-Pipe - would love to get the CEL light off for good.
Burtman Industries eliminators do not work for the VVT-i V8 with the model headers (THY-563Y-LS-C) and y-pipe (89230) Thorley sent me, unfortunately. There is not enough space to fit both the sensor itself and the spacers in simultaneously. He says they install them all the time, which I do not doubt. I volunteered to bring my rig over to let them install the spacers - but no response from him, yet, after sending photos of the lack of clearance on both upstream and downstream sensors.
I have the stock exhaust from where it meets up with the Y-pipe if anyone close to OH wants it, btw.

Poking around their website, it appears that you get a software license with the system to work on one vehicle?
Installing that on my laptop... I should then be able to roll my truck and said laptop up on the dyno and have a pro fiddle with the tune?

That's how I understand it.
It looks like "Pro" tuners can pay ~$1500 for a Pro license that covers multiple vehicles, however would need to buy "Credits" for each vehicle they tune.
Overall I plan to pickup a pack of "Canned" tunes from YotaWerx Tuning ( YotaWerx Tuning Services, Development, and Feedback | Toyota 4Runner Forum [4Runners.com]) to try out until I get around to tweaking the calibrations myself. It looks like they have a decent reputation and have a 4-pack of tunes available for the V8/GX470 (Mild or Aggressive for 87 and 91).

Yotawerx ftw
I cannot begin to tell everyone here how professional Marc @ YotaWerx is.
I'm computer savvy, but didn't want to do something wrong and brick the ECU. Marc absolutely went above and beyond to make sure I installed their tune package correctly.
I now have no CEL light on anymore (the main reason I purchased the tune after installing headers and Y-pipe).
The throttle response and new transmission shift points are absolutely incredible, and I haven't even played with the Premium Gas ACTIVE DUTY tune yet!!
If anyone else out there is thinking of getting a tune for their V8 - I cannot recommend YotaWerx or Marc any higher.
Don't waste your money on a pedal commander - give your engine & transmission a whole new identity.
Go from being the kid no one notices to making insecure new 'Vette drivers rev their engine back at you at stop lights (this happened to me on Day 2 after installing the Thorleys, lol)

Fingers crossed they come out with something for the non-vvti engines sometime soon. My only regret on buying my 2003.

Might have to pick up one of these tunes and sell my used sprint booster to offset the cost...
Wish there was a dyno chart for the V8

wait .... what....? for real??
holy crap... this is literally what I have been longing for on my '03 v8! Definitely keeping my eyes peeled for this. This would mean once my cat's fully go and the spacer methods stops working I can get my hands on a set of DT headers and have the possibility to flash the ecu..?

Yeah, you and me both. I'm still going to try to incorporate cats on mine with the DT long tubes but having a working tuner for making adjustments would be awesome. Especially if we can play with shift points.

I've been running the YotaWorx "Active Duty" tune for a couple years. It improved the truck, seems to work well. I haven't messed with it beyond that really...
