CEL, VSC OFF, VSC TRAC, Swervy Car Light On. Help!

My CEL, VSC OFF, VSC TRAC, and Swervy Car Light all came on at the same time. I went and got the codes pulled on it at AZone. Part of it was a loose gas cap code but he said there another dealing with more fuel/emissions. He didn't really give me any specifics though. Something about excess fuel but that it was a bunch of techinal mumbo jumbo. I've tightened the cap and reset the computer via battery but the lights came back on about a day and a half later. It won't rev as easily and it downshifts sooner when I break.

2005 4Runner V8 ~101k miles

Any ideas?

Same problem here

I have the exact same dash lights on and they have been on for ~4 months now while I go through every possible solution people have soon. Here's what I've done -
1) tightened gas cap, reset ECU....No Luck
2) replaced gas cap, reset ECU...No Luck
3) replaced original battery with Interstate HD battery...No Luck
4) completed zero point calibration...No Luck

Not sure why i waited so long, but I just got the codes pulled and there were three. One had a description on the Advance Auto scan tool - P0335 aka crankshaft position sensor. The other codes were P1340 & P1341 - looking for what those are now.

I'm hopeful that replacing the CPS will solve all my issues since I have read many posts where other problems have also caused similar lights on the dash which leads me to believe there is not a all in one solution when this happens.

It's interesting to hear your comment about the engine performance because I have felt the same issue with my V8.

Let me know what you find out!

I had this occur a few months ago (2wd, V8, 05, 38k on the clock) and it was a bad gas cap. Not sure if you bought a brand new one or not (they're only $13 online) and I replaced that, and ALWAYS make sure it's screwed down as tight as possible. I go past the "3 clicks" always, otherwise it makes those stupid Christmas lights go off on the dash.

I'm having the same problem and I'm sure it's the gas cap as mine wouldnt tighten correctly. Will the dash lights reset themselves automatically after I replace the cap or should I pull the battery terminal to get the computer to reset?

Pardon my "noob-ness"

What does a gas cap have to do with vehicle stability control? We just replaced the tires on my wife's 4runner and now the dealer is telling me that during the fule injection service some "crud" got on a sensor". I'm waiting on a call back to explain how that affects the VSC.

Goto autozone/advanced auto/whereever to get code. More than likely a bad gas cap. Cheap at Toyota ($15 I think). Common problem.

VSC (vehicle Stability Control), when activated (when slip is detected) reduces the engine spark at some point. If all isn't right with the engine (CEL), the system turns itself off to protect the engine from further damage............ in theory. That's why EVERYTHING lights up. Can't remember where I read that.

It was a bad gas cap. Kinda strange a five year old car with less than 50,000 miles would have a bad gas cap. I replaced it for $27 from the dealer, unhooked the battery cable for a few minutes and all is right again. Don't forget to reset your power windows after unhooking the battery. Good luck.

What do you mean, "reset the power windows"? How do you do that and is that possibly why my rear wiper and defroster isn't working anymore after I disconnected the battery?? More info on this would be appreciated.

.........meaning that the AUTO feature is disabled. After disconnecting your battery, you must reset it in order for it to work as before. Instructions in the manual or do a search

Got it, thank you for the response. I did just that and everything is back to normal again. Still have the trac/vsc lights on tho, but I have never had the CEL come on ever. Wondering if it's because of all the brake dust being generated from the pads I have on now. I have to wash the front wheels once a week just to keep them clean. Getting ready to replace with some ceramic ones to hopefully cut down on all the brake dust, and maybe my trac/vsc lights will finally go out. The gas cap seems to be snug. Head scratcher for sure. The V8 runs great, so don't hink it's the cats, and like I said, no trouble codes pop up on a scanner, so I don't know where to go other than the pads being changed.

Ladies, and gents:
Hello just today in the morning, on the way to work, I had my CEL, VSC, and TRAC lights all come on simultaneously. So as soon as I parked up at work, I checked the 4Runner. Also checked my gas cap(tightly clicked on), to eliminate this. I then noticed my brake fluid in the reservoir was slightly lower than max. I went to add/top it off, put the cap back on. Started it up, waited, and all the lights turned off. So we'll see. If the fluid level gets too low, the system emits a LOUD steady beeping through the audio system(maybe its a safety feature), until you add enough brake fluid to the system to top it off. Plus, youll have no brake function until you add enough fluid. Hopefully this helps someone out. This was on my 2007 Toyota 4Runner Limited V8. Everybody have a great day
