Hood Release Lever and Latch Bar?

I'm new here and have only owned my 07 4runner for about 2 months. I love it more every day. I love this forum too because the wealth of knowledge here is insane.

I popped my hood tonight to check out a few things and I stuck my hand under the grill to lift the hood and the release lever was just moving back and forth without allowing me to open the hood. I noticed there was a rod that was just hanging so I crawled under the car and popped the latch by hand.

Once I got the hood up I saw this rod that was just hanging and it was obvious it was broke. It's the rod that connects the release lever to the latch. I've included a picture of the rod that I took off. Now my release lever is useless and I have to open the hood by sticking my hand through the grill. Does anyone know what this part is actually called and where I can get a replacement? Hood Release Lever and Latch Bar?-image-jpg

Welcome to the forum. You're right, lots of good information and good people on this site.

I've not had to mess with my hood latch yet so I'm not familiar with that part in your picture. Check out this diagram:

2007 TOYOTA 4RUNNER Parts - Conicelli Parts Center

It looks to me like it's a single cable that connects the lever inside the car to the lock under the hood. The only thing in that diagram that looks similar to yours might be part number 13. Hard to tell though.

BTW, you might want to bookmark that site. It's a Toyota dealer out of PA that has pretty good prices and I believe they're a forum sponsor. And obviously they have part diagrams online to make it easy to look things up. And they're real helpful if you ever e-mail them to ask questions.

#13 is the part you're looking for in the diagram.

Did you see if you could reinstall the bar? The steel rod itself doesn't look broken....

The rod is okay, what you need are the plastic end clips that secure the rod at both ends. It should be part number 16 as shown in the diagram in the link that jimithing provided in his post. Did you look at under your hood to see if the plastic end clips are still there or if the broken remains of the clips are there?

Wow, you guys are awesome!!

The rod itself is ok. The plastic ends broke into pieces all over the driveway. I figured I would have to buy the rod and clips together but being able to buy the clips by themselves is great!

I can't thank you guys enough! I think this place just became my second home.

Auxiliary hood release rod snaps broken, replacement needed.

Hello,
The end snaps broke on my 2004 Toyota 4runner as well. Looking for a current place to buy these little pieces. Any assistance is appreciated.

EDIT: Maybe these are the ones. Can anyone confirm? Thanks.

Last month mine broke as well on one side, I just applied some jb weld at the end of the rod since the locking plastic clip/washer was busted and it is holding up just fine

This happened to me too. I've just been sticking my fingers under the hood to unlatch it myself. I lost my rod too. So do I need the rod and the clip? Is that parts 15 and 16? It's hard to tell from the diagram since none of them look like the rod...
