How well does your V6 coast?

Average driving around town when coasting to a stoplight up ahead, it feels like quite a bit of drag slowing down my 2005.
I have a new pumpkin, new transmission service and the brakes aren't hot. Just some days it feels tight.

At highway speeds, when getting off the road, when I lift my foot, it feels like a drag chute was released. I think it comes from the tranny downshifting

Very bad whenever the transmission is in top gear, down to ~25mph. On highway when I lift off it slows down immediately.

I have the V8 not the V6, but mine also slows down when I take my foot off the gas, I wouldn't say it's very dramatic, but more so than my work van or my Suburban.

The proper term is called "engine braking" all vehicles do this if in gear but not all are the same, so it not truly "coasting".

If you want to check and see if it is indeed just engine braking or some other issue causing it to slow down more rapidly than it should just shift into neutral and see if there's a difference, if it still slows down more than you think it should when truly coasting in neutral then start checking brakes pads dragging, parking brake adjusted too tight, bad bearings etc.

My 2005 4.7L Tundra does it much more noticeably than my 2005 4.7L 4runner. Tundra also has 50k more miles on it for whatever thats worth.

I've noticed the same thing in a slightly different scenario. When travelling back home from my place in the mountains there's a long 7% grade descent near Hendersonville, NC. With any other vehicle I've driven through there I always have to downshift to control my speed. With my 4runner I just leave it in drive and take my foot off the gas. It may gain 1-2 mph but that's all.

Today I figure I would get an estimated result of how fast my T4R slows down after I take my foot off the gas pedal, going about 60 MPH it slowed down around 1 MPH per second consistently, I counted to 5, 10 and 15 and the results was the same, took about 15 second to go down to 45 MPH.

I also did the same in neutral and it was a bit less lost of speed but not by much, got down to 48 or so MPH in 15 seconds.
