Have to admit I was hoping whenever they finally dropped a KO3 it would have more of a change in the tread design/pattern. While at first glance the redesign does look like an improvement, it doesn't appear to be a massive change. I also wish BFG would offer a "R/T" style tire like all the other major brands have started doing.

Not sure there is much "improvement" here but the blocks look bigger which I assume makes it more aggressive in some terrain. I wonder if they will be louder at speed. I've had K02s on several vehicles and they weren't bad for an a/t. I currently run BFG Trail Terrains which I thought was a good compromise between typical SUV and all terrain and so far have been pleased with them.

I will need tires soon so I am keeping an eye on the KO3. The things BFG gets right for sure are offering proper LTC and quality control.

I have noticed something very interesting to me:

Geolander Old AT vs new AT: same complaints.
Toyo AT III vs AT II: same complaints.

Are newer compounds and tweaks really able to overcome fundamental shortcomings of the design?

Kinda hard to hope that the KO2 will be good in rain on pavement or in mud offroad. The design surely precludes the latter.

Thus while I really would like an LTC, I am leaning towards the Baja Boss, the replacement of my ATZ P 3. They are heavier which is why I am open to alternatives but so far the ATZ P3 is the ONLY tire that has met all my requirements off and on road.

But I am keeping an open mind so it is LTE Baja Boss vs LTC KO3 for me.

What complaints have there been on the Toyo ATIII? I've had mine for 2 years and off-road it 2 times a weeks and daily it and have not had any issues with mine. The wear has been amazingly even...

About wet pavement. It was interesting to me to read such reviews because I had some similar complaints about the AT II.

Of course, not everybody driving Ko2 complains about its rain performance either, but it is a common one for that tire.

With the Geolander, it was very interesting because there is a guy who works for Discount Tire that I was talking a lot to and he, who bought the newer version for his FJ, eventually brought forward exactly the same issues I had had with the original version.

Kenda Klever R/T

The Kenda Klevers kick the absolute dogsh*t out of these tires. Especially off-road - and quieter than they are on the road.

The KO2's are the most overhyped-overpriced tire out there. I'd get the Falken WildPeak AT3W's again before I went back to the BFG's

That is interesting... We had a couple of very wet months here in SoCal in this past year (Dec 2022-April 2023); driving down the HWY at 65-70mph in my ATIII's and I did not have any slipping or loss of traction. I've had the KO2s, Wild-peaks, and now the ATIIIs and all perform similar in the rain. I do know for a fact the when you want to smash on take off on wet pavement the all do skid.

I've had the Open Country ATII and ATIIIs. In my experience, the ATIIIs are better in wet conditions. Would re-buy.

ATII: Acceptable in rain new but after 30k super sketchy in the rain. The car would wander when driving in the rain on the highway.

ATIII: Marked improvement in wet conditions. Granted nothing like at all season tire, but at least predictable when driving on wet roads.

That's good and it makes sense that the current generation would correct a shortcoming.

I am somewhat intrigued by the new Toyo RT Trail, about which I learned 2 days ago, because it offers LTC (not yet available from Discount Tire which is why I did not know it was a thing). But I will likely stick with the successor of my ATZ P3, the Baja Boss AT in LTE. I want LTC and lower weight but since the ATZ P3 is the first tire in 14 years of offroading to meet all my on and offroad wants, it will be hard to switch. The Boss AT comes in P metric as well but there are parts of AZ where P metric just does not cut it and I wear out P-metric offroad tires in no time anyway.

RT>AT (all day every day - especially if you take it off road).

Take the plunge - you won't regret it!
