It was time to add some MORE BEEF!
It was time to upgrade the steering rack for this 4Runner. Tired of breaking little stock tie-rods going over bowling ball sized rocks, so I upgraded! Needed more BEEF because i'm in NO MOOD to be breaking down on trails. It may not seem like much, but the stock steering systems on the 4Runner platform are not made to handle big tires, this is a huge upgrade!
Got a modified Tundra rack installed with new solid piece tie-rods!

Oh very nice! I've been considering this if and when my rack goes out. Did you do the install yourself?

Not quite that easy, It was a super tight fit with getting the rack in, but after that it was smooth sailing, also got new spindles, new uniballs for the lower ball joint, and wheel bearings.

Do you have the V6 or V8? Curious how that rack would fit with the V8. Steering is definitely a weak point in these trucks.

I have the V8. I do have after market motor mounts that help set the engine up a smidge. Fitting the rack was tight! I have about a quarter inch of clearance from the rack to the oil pan.

Awesome. How does the steering feel now?

Feels like a new vehicle and more solid. I have aluminum bushings instead of rubber, so there is no slop or play in this rack unlike the stock rack.

Did Basikbikers aluminum offset bushings bolt right up to your factory mounting holes? How much engine lift do you think would be necessary to make the Tundra rack fit? Sorry for all the questions lol

Oh one other question, have you noticed your turning radius is worse now? I believe I read somewhere that it is but just confirming.
