Can gas cap lose sealing ability by dropping the cap?

Costco gas station attendant dropped my gas cap a couple times. Is that enough to stop the cap from sealing?

I'm getting intermittent traction dash lights lighting up but goes away by trying to tighten the cap. It gets loose so easily by vibration or just very slightly turning it counterclockwise.

OR - the cap is old and it's about time to replace it. It's a 2007.

It could have broken with a few drops, yes. Just get an OEM replacement, they aren't super expensive. Also note, the gas cap should have a tether on it. Make sure it's attached to avoid drop issues in the future.
