Question AC Not Charging wont take Freon.

AC was blowing cold on passenger side and a not as cold on driver side. The system is not taking any freon. Warm on both sides now. AC clutch is not engaging and low side pressure is really low. Is there a low pressure switch if there is I can't find it. I only see the high-pressure switch in front of the condenser. Also, no condensation coming from the drain tube. Need help ASAP.

Have you ruled out the airmix servo?

87106-35180
SERVO SUB-ASSY, DAMPER (FOR AIRMIX)
Controls the fan temperature
Under the glovebox, mounted on the center console, bottom position

I think its dorman part 604-341

I've never heard of it, and I have no clue what it is. I don't know much about the AC system on these things at all. Any help and explanation to help me understand, would be very much appreciated.

okay well Ive been all up in mine in the last couple of weeks. I have a sport that does not have dual zone control which may matter...someone else will have to chime in, as I could be completely off base. The only other thing I can think of is to have it evacuated, recharged and checked for leaks.

Under / behind the glovebox on the left wall - there are two servos - the top opens and closes vents according to your panel selection (floor, front vents, defrost) the bottom is the airmix which like I said, controls the airmix / temperature control.

It is my understanding from deep diving AC stuff recently, that common failure indication when one side is blowing warmer the other cold which is why I pinged you about it.

here is a DIY thread: DIY: Replace Servo Sub-Assy

Thumbs up

I actually found that video today and did just that. I never even knew that sensor was there.

I thought it was maybe for the OEM microphone, personally.

Did it work? He had some good info on troubleshooting the compressor peppered in there too.

Freon will Not go into the system at all. I have used the Can freon before and when you hit the button the can gets Cold and the gauge moves up and lets you know when its in the Correct range. Then both sides blow cool. Last time I charged it at a Shop. I was trying to give it a qwik charge. I never had an issue and never over charge the system. Can will not get Cold and the system is not taking the charge. Never had an issue before. Can is still full.

Normally when you apply the nozzle to the Low Port valve, and the system is running, that gauge needle should move based on the amount of freon in the vehicle. This is before you even press the can. Depending on the gauge you have normally you wouldn't apply anymore than in the green window of most gauges. If your gauge/hose tool doesn't work maybe try another and or a new can.

When filling up, click on the a/c button, and just be aware to see if that A/C compressor engages. If the freon goes in and it still doesn't kick on you might have bad compressor or faulty connection somewhere in that area.

I don't use the throw away cans with the attached gauge but @BigMike18 says the gauge should be in the green if full as soon as you attach the hose to the fitting. Is that happening? If you are indeed in the green and your compressor is not turning on - have you checked the AC magnetic clutch relay in the fuse box? Tap on it and/or swap it out and see if the compressor fires up.

Looks like you can borrow one of these from Autozone.

I recently had this same issue with my 07 runner. The system would not take Freon as well as the AC clutch would not engage when AC was turned on. What I did was jump the system with a paper clip. Once I did that, the AC clutch started to engage and the system accepted the Freon. In the front of the 4Runner, passenger side there is a site glass that shows the freon level right next to what I believe is the high pressure side. There is a sensor that is next to the site glass that you will unclip. Take a paper clip and put one end in each of the terminals. This should jump the system and the AC clutch should engage. Once this happens, connect to the low pressure side and start to fill up…. Good Luck
