Front Speaker Sound Is LOW - Diagnostic Thread

I've had my 2006 4Runner for almost 15 years now, and two years ago I had my entire sound system replaced. Front / Rear speakers replaced with JBL aftermarket speakers, JL Audio AMP, Pioneer Head Unit.

As the title states, the front right speaker is very low for some reason now.

Here is some back story. Everything was fine until one day the speaker went out. As I was driving at times, if I would hit a bump it would come back on for a bit, then go out if I hit another bump.

I took off the door panel, and it doesnt look like any wires are loose. I replaced the speaker with a new one and it still sounds very low, same as the old one. Wires on the back of the amp seem tight. Haven't gone to check the wiring on the head unit.

Would appreciate some insight on this if anyone else has faced a similar issue.

Thank you!

Definitely sounds like something is shorting out.

The wires you're looking for are:
(Coming out of the head unit *high side*)
Right front: + GRAY
Right front: - GRAY/BLACK

Did you cut into the wiring harness or use an aftermarket connector like this?
Metra 70-1761 Radio Wiring Harness For Toyota 87-Up Power 4 Speaker
Amazon.com

If the speaker and connections there check out fine as well as to the amp then it's most likely a bad connection coming out of the head unit. I'd pull the harness where it connects to the back of the hu if it's a "quick disconnect" and make sure no pins have backed out of the connector. Then make sure it seats solidly back to the hu. I'd also check the 10 pin connector (if applicable) where it connects to your vehicles stereo wiring harness and check for any pins backed out. Other than that, if you used butt connectors that would be the most likely culprit.
