Replace ABS/masterC - possible without special tool?
So long story short, IÂ’ve got a failing ABS unit. Alarm goes off anywhere from 10 to 30 seconds sometimes, but then stops. So unit isnÂ’t totally dead, but itÂ’s close.
I bought a remanufactured unit with warranty, so I am confident in the new unit, but it seems thatÂ’s not enough. Searching the threads here, seems that with a new unit being installed you canÂ’t do this yourself. Some folks say theyÂ’ve managed to do it, but the general consensus is that you need the special Toyota tool to open ABS valves, run the pump and fully bleed the system.
So is that really the case? The majority of posts here seem to say agree, but there are a few who seem to say they managed to do it themselves. But that seems like wishful thinking is IÂ’ve seen no specific procedure explained.
If it is true that you need a little computer unit, I guess I need to take it into a shop to have them do it, correct?
