4th Gen Internal Frame Coating

Hey everyone,

I know there is are lot of threads over the years where people have mentioned frame coating/rust issues but it is a bit spread out across multiple threads. I’d like to start a new thread specific to internal frame coating that has updated information.

I’ve read mainly about Fluid Film, Eastwood internal frame coating and Wool Wax. There is also KBS Cavity Coater and a few other smaller brands.

I’d love to hear any long term users advice, and what is your absolute favorite in terms of ability to use, cost factor, if you regret using one over the other, and most importantly, the protection factor.

Thanks!

Hey! Great thread idea. I have a few old vehicles that I’m always fighting the earth from reclaiming. I ran across Blaster co, like PB Blaster, Surface shield. It’s much longer lasting than fluid film and other CPC’s, corrosion preventing compound, easily available.
Here is a great CPC torture test that shows the lasting effects.

From what I can see on my truck, unless you get all the salty sand out of the frame you will get holes. The junk seems to accumulate at the bottom of the frame wheel arches and there is no clean-out holes. I've repaired a couple holes in these areas and always end up with a quart of junk getting removed. In my opinion, oiling it is kinda useless unless that junk is gone. If I knew of this when I bought my truck a few years ago I would have drilled a decent sized clean-out hole in the bottom of those areas then oiled them.

As for what to use, heated bar & chain oil is a cheap alternative and seems to last longer than fluid film, at least externally. I have tried both inside and out just to watch the sand burn it's way out from the inside. I now assume my truck's frame will eventually be beyond repairing but hopefully I have a couple years left.

I sprayed out my frame with a garden hose really well and coated with 3 or 4 cans of eastwood internal frame coating a couple years ago.

So far so good, nothing really to report. I probably have more surface rust than internal rust but its minor.
