Arrow '06 LTD V8 - Top 3 must-have upgrades?

Hey 4Runner owners,

I just bought a 2006 Limited V8 for daily family use and road trips. Unfortunately it won't see much off-road duty.

What are the top three must-have upgrades for these rigs? So far I am thinking of nicer wheels and tires, a simple front bar (JAOS or Westin?) with lights and maybe a bit of extra power.

I would love to hear what upgrades other owners feel are worth doing.

Thanks

you sure you don't like the LTD wheels? i like them a lot since it is stock 18". let me know if you really want to get rid of them, i may think about to take over from you and throw them on our 06 tundra.

Top three mods in my book:

1- One inch leveling lift to raise the nose up and get it off the ground.

2- A decent set of tires

3- HID headlights

1. Floorliner floormats from weathertech

2. Cargo liner from husky

Your carpet will thank you!

1. Floorliners by WeatherTech (considered my best 'upgrade' by far.)

2. Front Bar and Rear bars are a plus (someone backed in to my car at my work parking garage and the rear bar saved the bumper, although there is a small dent in the rear bar now. the bump was hard enough to bend the brackets.)

3. Tinted Windows (still waiting for mine).

BTW, most of the easy bolt-on performance stuff (intake and exhaust) will increase your top-end hp but you will lose bottom end torque). And for rims and tires, you might as well wait until your stock tires need changing.

Ok guys,

The WeatherTech stuff has been ordered!

Do the HIDs work well with the '06> headlight reflector and lens? Is the beam pattern fine even though these housings aren't designed for HIDs? The owners manual says the low-beam in an H11....what is that?

I am keeping the original wheels for winter use and will go with something nicer for the summer.

Is there a pic thread with all the diferent front bar options for the 4th Gen 'Runners? I don't want a massive bush-bar, just a nice little hoop for a bit of protection and for mounting two PIAA lamps.

Thanks again

yes, 06+ stock halogen projector housing works well with HID kit, but make sure you have to cover up the squirrel finder. the next step up of HID kit will be a real HID retrofit, of course retrofit a real HID will give you better night vision with a much wider intensity on the road but also it will cost more than just getting a HID kit. here are my some write up of putting HID kit, cover up squirrel finder and finally a real HID retro. all of them were performed on my 4Runner. so you can choose which route you want to go and how much budget you want to spend on the headlight itself.

Thanks for the info I am not too worried about price but I would like to know a bit more... Where do I buy the "real HID retro" parts? Is this the TSX thing your sig mentions? How hard is the install? What is the "washer mod"?

yes, if you saw my 2 posts above, can you tell the difference by how the light spread between stock and TSX? there's 2 places to get those parts, one is ebay, other is hidplanet.com

washer mod is very common on TSX projectors to create a thicker band with blue/purple color on the cutoff line. PM me for further question, i dont' want to flood the originality of this post,

but if you have time, go to www.hidplanet.com/forums/ to check out the "univeristy" section and see what is the whole deal of "retrofit", that site helps a lot, i learnt my retrofit there but end up i paid someone else to do it.
