Turn Signal LED Hyperflash Solution
I drive a 2006 4Runner and currently have LEDs throughout the entire vehicle. The only lights I never replaced with LEDs were the turn signals due to the hyper flash issue.
I know some people use resistors, while others have used a turn signal flash module.
My question is, what have you all done to solve this issue? Looking for a solution so I can swap in LEDs and call it a day.
Thank you in advance for all input!

I used resistors from Amazon secured with metal dryer duct tape (which is very handy for numerous vehicle uses btw). The resistors have screw holes but drilling sheet metal risks rust so nope on that.
It’s been almost a year and no issues. This is the passenger side; on the driver’s side, I tucked it up forward as far as possible from the battery (had the battery out for something else).
LMK if resistor and/or bulb specifics would be helpful.

i have been using led flasher relay, it replaces the one at the back of the inside fuse box. granted mines not even equipped with DRL, also the only thing youll loose is the flash from factory keyless entry. if you have aftermarket system installed, they should work like normal since its tied to the parking lights.

I had the resistors and I believe they failed, I sanded down the wire in the stock flasher relay thing and its worked great ever since.

Do you have a link for the flasher relay you use? I'm honestly torn between using the resistors or getting the flasher relay. I actually have 4 flasher relays from vleds already. I know for the from you can just slap them on, but I am not sure if its the same for the rears. Still trying to figure out the route I wanna take here.

I used the Diode Dynamics Smart Tap since I'm running aftermarket LED turn signals in my Coastal front bumper. Plug and play for the most part. I had to get a new OEM short adapter harness for my Limited.
LED Flasher for 2003-2009 Toyota 4Runner (non-DTRL)
You only need this adapter if you have DRLs I believe. With DRLs, the flasher relay is different but this harnes resolves the issue.

Ok so you are using both the Smart Tap and the harness adapter?
And you are able to run LEDs in the front and back without losing your DRLs?

Yes and no.
I had to run the harness to use the smart tap since my truck had DRLs to start. I've disabled the DRLs completely using Techstream. I hate DRL, they are pointless IMO.
I have aftermarket LED turn signals in my aftermarket front bumper. The rear lights are still stock 2003, so don't have LEDs in them.

i got mines off ebay, didn't even pay over 20 for it.
look for the cf18 flasher, everyone carries a variant of those, as long you dont have DRL, you can use that 8 pin flasher, pretty standard on all toyotas mostly

That's what that adapter cable resolves. Vehicles with DRL have the larger connector, not sure what the pin count is. The adapter harness goes from the larger connector to the non-DRL 8 pin connector.

the work around for the drl version, is to take a apart the flasher relay, and slowly grind away the resistor bar.
i havent taken apart that harness you talk about, i wonder which wire is tapped together or what extra wire changed.

Why not just do it the right way with the adapter harness? I'd rather do that then a hack job of grinding a resistor. Less chance of issues, especially since it's OEM and only costs $15-$20 from a dealer.

So, if you need the harness for DRL then what is the reasoning for needing the smart tap version?
Wouldn't this along with the harness suffice to fix the hyperflash and still retain DRLs? CF18 ADJUSTABLE FLASHER 8 PIN

Because I chose to use the smart tap for the additional features?
You don't need to use the smart tap version, just get whatever works for you to resolve the fast flash. I told you what I used and why the harness was needed.

Driver’s side resistor placement. Stay as far from the battery as possible since the resistors heat up while operating.
