VSC TRAC and VSC OFF lights on

Hey maybe someone has had this issue before. For starters I have a 2003 t4r and when I start her up no lights in the dash are on however as soon as she goes into gear and pulls forward or reverse a little bit those to lights come on. Has anyone seen this before if so how did you fix it. My sister had the same issue for her 03 Highlander and she replaced the gas cap so I tried that but nope nothing yet. Any other ideas?

Do a search for “vsc/trac off lights” here on the forum. I had the same problem, and a zero point calibration fixed it. The relevant thread is from 11/2/14. Somehow, the vehicle loses the stored data that says it’s level.

plus 1 on the zero point calibration try.

If that doesn't work I would start pulling codes to see if there is anything that comes up, not likely since I would expect the check engine light to be on as well.

For what it's worth, if you didn't want to rig up your own wires to do the at-home zero-point calibration I can confirm that this OBDii scanner from amazon will perform the zero-point cal successfully. Not the most intuitive thing to use, but you can search it up on youtube and there is a guy that walks through the steps of clearing out the stored settings and running the zero point cal using this thing : Amazon.com

I recently fueled up with 85 octane . Next time I restarted the lights came on. Shop said codes showed drivers cat converter.
They said next fill up use 89+ . Eventually the lights cleared and I make sure to use 87 octane with no issues.
I did a test of 85 octane and lights came on again and cleared with a tank of 87.

You had a CEL which will also trigger the VSC/TRAC lights. The OP ONLY has VSC/TRAC, no CEL. This is most commonly caused by the computer loosing it's calibration for when the vehicle is level. A Zero Point Calibration is the fix for that, not changing you fuel.

FYI, 89 is the more stable octane rating and better fuel to use over 87. Never use less htan 87 either way.
