Back hatch closes, then opens back up!

We're on a massive road trip and for some random reason the hatch gets pulled in, but doesn't want to latch and stay closed.

There are no obstructions and even if there were it wouldn't behave this way.

I unplugged the battery but that didn't change anything.

After driving around for a bit, locking the vehicle up to go a restaurant (with the manual door lock button), came back out and she's back to normal.

The actuator was replaced last year with an Amazon unit, not sure if there's a connection or not.

Don't understand why the hatch ECU tells the actuator to release instead of holding on to the hatch?

Opened up the interior hatch panel, disconnected each connector then reconnected them in order to make sure all is good.

Thx for your insight.

The way these work is the motor pulls the door in far enough that the latch locks into place then the motor releases. You should hear it 2 times. When the latch starts to fail it will not stay latched. I would lube the snot out of it while it still mostly works but who knows how long the China ones last. I also have one in my truck. I always pull on the hatch to make sure it stayed latched as I don't trust it. Never had it not latch though since replacing.
