Keyfob Case Replacement

2004 Sport, I've had a problem with the vehicle locking/unlocking while I stroll around with the keyfob in my pocket. Lost about a grand worth of gear last Fall as a result. Both of the original keyfobs do this.

I ordered a replacement case and fumbled with that for about half an hour. Finally went to YT and watched someone do this in about a minute. He left the circuit board/battery etc. in the original rubber encasement instead of using the new one. I tried that and eventually got each of the buttons to click correclty.

But, since I didn't replace the rubber enclosure I'm wondering if the touch will still be too light. The alternative I suppose is to get a programmable set.

Anyone have any suggestions/insight/experience as to the best choice in this situation? Thanks...

A new case from AutoZone is like $17. Probably cheaper online. Mine is a little too sensitive as if I'm working around the car with keys in my pocket, sometimes it beeps, but the keyrings were broken so I needed it. It's better than nothing

The replacement was 6 bucks on Amazon, figured out how to get it to work, seems like it solved the problem of sensitivity of the old one. I'll probably order one for the other key. Screwed up and didn't do it sooner.

Sometimes I would walk out and find my rear window open. I would accidentally press it while it was in my pocket with my other keys. Now that I put that keyfob on it's own keychain that stopped happening. The range for the OEM keyfob is amazing too, which adds to the issue.

That's the other thing. You can exit the vehicle, go in a building, jostle around for your wallet and unlock the vehicle. Very dangerous, cost me big time.

I rarely put keys in my pants pockets now for these reasons. I'll either clip them to my belt loop with a caribiner or put them in a jacket pocket. I've done this for so long it now feels annoying in my pants pockets.

Key Fob Case

I got the AJT design key fob case from 4runnerlifestyle. It is more robust and better looking than the original fob and all you have to do is swap out the internals. It also has deeper buttons so you don’t accidentally press them as much. I did keep the original plastic piece.AJT Design Key Fobs For 4Runner (1996-2009) — 4Runner Lifestyle

Have the sand color and absolutely love it. Much more durable than factory and looks sweet, too!
