Transmission shift solenoid 1 P0751 P0974

'03 V8 w/210K

No issues prior. From a stop when accelerating it is very sluggish as if it's starting out in 3rd gear. Operates normal above 15mph.

First code P0751 popped up (transmission shift solenoid "A" performance or stuck off )

Scanned again later and P0974 also showed (transmission shift solenoid "A" control circuit high)

I did some research but I couldn't find anything specific to this platform aside from debris can get lodged in the solenoid causing it to stick open or closed.

I went ahead and purchased the dealer part dropped the pan and swapped it out. Got everything put back together filled the fluid, cleared the codes test drove and P0974 came back. Same problem from a stop when accelerating.

I didn't check voltage on the harness connector when I had it apart but it visually looked solid.

Does the PCM need a reset of some kind after replacing the solenoid? Wondering if anyone has had a similar issue with solenoids?

I've read some more info suggesting internal Trans failure might be the underlying problem.

TIA

What's the maintenance history before the failure?

Had the same code, had to have solenoid replaced on mine. Came in at around 700 for parts/labor

Going to take it in for a free diagnostic. Also spoke with the dealer, they said occasionally they need to do a recalibration on the solenoid.

Anyone have experience with having to do that?

To the top

Anyone had this problem/code or heard of calibrating new solenoids after install?

I was really hoping to get some feedback from the community

Update:

Took it into the dealer, the shift solenoid s1 pin has corroded inside the solenoid harness. Need to replace the entire solenoid harness that goes inside the trans pan and the female connector that goes to the main engine harness needs to be replaced or repaired.

Parts supplier said there is a 5 digit code on the female connector and they might have a replacement one I can splice into the main harness

Dealer quoted 3 hours labor, over $400

How did it corrode INSIDE the transmission body?

Huh, I don't know how I missed this thread...

But that is a very good question, theoretically it shouldn't corrode because it is bathed in transmission fluid I believe; but I suppose if it was never changed the fluid could contaminate it and result in corrosion?

It is the 15 pin harness connector outside the transmission, driver's side by the shift linkage. It's where the complete shift solenoid harness connects to the female pigtail that is part of the main engine harness. 3 of the 15 pins are corroded. The male side of the s1 pin is broken off inside the female side pigtail. Shift solenoid is not getting a signal from the computer

Ah that makes much more sense, some of the transmissions have internal solenoid connections that should be sealed if I remember right.

Do you happen to have a picture of its location? Do you drive through deep water frequently?

I'll get some photos next week when I attempt to fix it.

I haven't driven through any puddles but I've personally only had it for a few months
