Painting running boards and step bumper

2003 4Runner sport

Have it getting painted now.

Has anyone painted there running boards or the grey step section on the rear bumper.

The shop talked me out of getting these 2 items painted. Said it would not hold up. I guess they mean with people standing on them. Dont ever step on the rear.

But the wife does use the running boards to get in the truck.

Any suggestions. Or have you done so and had it last?
Thanks

Paint it the color you want and maybe put some kind of non-slip surface where your foot goes?

Just curious, why do you want to paint them? Are they messed up or you want them a different color?

I painted the step sections of mine with DupliColor Trim & Bumper Paint. That's what I would recommend. I used it to paint all the faded plastic trim when I had my Xterra; it looked great and held up for years.

Edit: Ha! Can't believe I still have this. Here you can see the contrast between the painted bumper step and the rest of the trim before it was painted.
