Explain regearing and front doffs to me like in 8

I get regearing is necessary to get the transmission back to a usable range if you have larger diameter tires.

Help me understand how the front differential works if you regear the rear.

You regear both differentials. You don't just regear the rear.

When you switch into 4H or 4L, the transfer case is locked and applies equal rotations to both the front and rear driveshafts. Front and rear differential gearing needs to match.

Right.. but are people also regearing their front differential when they upgrade the rear? I never noticed any threads about that.

if you're re-gearing, you're re-gearing both front and rear diffs at the same time, regardless of part time or full time 4wd/awd setup.

Unless you plan to drive purely in 2wd and not engage in 4hi/lo you can't have a mix of gear ratios in the differentials.

Ok that makes sense, but nobody ever brings the front gears up.
