2007 4runner rear bumper cover sag/gap under quarter panel

Hi,

I wanted to see if anyone had experience with the bumper cover sagging (larger gap than should be) under the rear quarter panel? (See pics) I'm going to take the cover off but I wanted to check here first... I suspect the clip has come loose or broken and I believe there is a bracket rail underneath that the clips attached to.

Thanks in advance for any tips or advice!

That's normal. My 2 4runners are the same way. If the plastic was broken, then it would pop out, not sag. The bumper cover sits in a small channel on the b/c bracket. If you do take the cover off don't forget there is a bolt at the front tip of the cover. A 10mm socket will get it off.

Thanks. I took that side of the bumper cover off and made sure the clips were catching on the rail on the side. The only thing I noticed is this "pin" think is loose (circled in attached picture). Anyone know what this part is? When I looked it up it appears to be part #52161-35020 but it looks different than mine because mine has a screw in it (has been stripped pretty much though).

Thanks

Agreed - Mine does the same thing. I believe I do have a clip thats broken, the bumper cover seems to sit below a clip

I also have issues with that screw retaining clip near the taillight housing. They dont seem to seat well

That part number is correct. They are not that good. I changed mine on one of mine to a push clip like on the radiator cover. Worked perfectly. My other one has the original clips.

I pulled that clip out you circled and installed a rivnut with a bolt and I was able to perfectly align the bumper cover. There is just too much play in that hole to keep it in one place and eventually over time the bumper sags. Normal but easily remedied
