Mounting my OEM Lug Centric Wheels
My 2008 Limited came with factory lug centric wheels, which I guess is unusual to start with.
Wanting to rotate my own tires, can someone identify the correct size ID/OD of hub adapter rings, or alternatively an adapter they use?
I dont really trust just torquing down the conical bolts does the job perfectly.

First, Toyota's engineers trust that method so it's probably good. Their attorneys must like it too b/c they wouldn't risk billions in liability with an unsafe way of attaching something important like the wheels. Hundreds of thousands of vehicles with lug centric wheels are driving around as we speak. Many of us rotate our tires and that's aside from having them off regularly for other things such as brake and suspension work. All that to say, the process is to tighten the lugs to the proper torque, double check, and go on your way.

That's all well and good but I do not have a Haweka adapter like the tire shops do to make sure the wheel is properly aligned. Just torquing down is not assurance that the wheel is perfectly centered on lug centric wheels. Being off by even a mm will cause vibration. These metal rings also assure the weight of the vehicle is on the hub better.
Making lug centric is a cost savings for Toyota to use the same wheels on different vehicles.

I think this is an idiosyncrasy you'll have to work through. If it bothers you/ worries you enough, you can go ahead an purchase a plate. Youll have to do your own measurements
Most of us have not had issues with torqueing down the the lug nuts. You have 6 evenly spaced lug nuts which if tightened the same should provide balance and even pressure.
Most tire shops arent going to use an adapter. Theyll put your wheel up, and use an airgun until the lugnut doesnt spin anymore

So, when did Toyota go to lug centric on their wheels?

I think there’s a misunderstanding here. I have Spidertrax spacers, but I believe the factory hub is the same way as shown in the picture: there’s a lip (blue in the pic) onto which the wheel fits, and then the lugs snug it down. The lugs are not what’s keeping the wheel in the correct position

I have an 06 limited and an 08 limited and they are both hub centric. Once you get the wheel centered on the hub and seated the wheel studs automatically center them selves in the wheel lug holes. I have never seen a 4th gen without being hub centric.

hub centric
all 6 lug Toyota wheels 2004+ are hub centric from the factory, except maybe the new Tundra/Sequoia's. I worked at a dealer for over a decade but left before the new Tundra came out so couldn't comment on them.

question for you.
I have the enkei wt4 wheels, they go on perfectly on the hub, but my lug nuts are the regular bulge acron, the 60 degree seat, now are they consider lug centric and not hub centric? I don't have any wobble and it feels like factory ride.
my other wheels used to use the e/t lug nuts.

Most cars and trucks are hub centric. Hub centric is when the wheel is mounted on the hub it can actually sit on the hub while lug nuts are installed. When you have a rim thats hub centric it automatically becomes lug centric. This is why in some cases if you have A/M rims you may need hub centric rings to make up the difference. I have a few sets of the wt4 rims. One set came off a 4runner XSP, the other set was on a Tahoe with hub rings to make up the difference between the 2 hubs as they were originally on a toyota.
AFAIK the only manufacturers that use lug centric wheels are BMW, VW, Audi, Mercedes possibly Porsche and Skoda.

Enkei wheels were port installed options through Gulf states or southeast Toyota. If the hub bore of the wheel is snug around the hub flange it's hub centric. The lug nuts you have are made to fit the lug holes in those enkei wheels. If you were to use factory flat washer Toyota lugnuts on those wheels you'd probably lose a wheel or two.

The studs on the hubs, and holes in the wheels have very strict tolerances. If you wear work clothes and have a torque wrench and a piece of cardboard or mat mounting wheels is simple. Put the cardboard or mat on the ground. Put the wheel in front of the hub. Sit on the ground and lift the wheel onto the studs. Use your legs to center the wheel holes on the studs. Run the lug nuts down finger tight in a criss cross pattern. Tighten the lug nuts down with a torque wrench to 60% in a criss cross pattern, then 80%, then 100% of torque spec. The center hole on a wheel is not what centers it. The lug nut holes are more precisely machined to center. (My comments are based on my experience only. Worked in tire shops many years before becoming an ASE certified tech working at GM dealership. Later did production machining Honda transmission components.)
