Your soon to be replaced valve block has bad master cylinder. On a side note, hydro-boost behavior seems different from vacuum boost system which loses boost after a couple of pedal applications after which pedal becomes hard and brakes like a manual non-boosted system.
Thanks for Testing

Test 1: 5-10 brake hits before the brake motor running? Wow.... my system sucks big time in comparison...My brake motor comes on after every second time on the brake- no question why I am getting the alarm1 after I hit the brake pedal less than 10 times in a row (that alarm 1 goes away after the motor can pick up the super low fluid pressure in the accumulator)

Test 2: if you cannot drain the pressure below stage 2 with the brake motor running... then sure- you are not able to trigger the super low pressure alarm (like I can with simply pushing the pedal 6 times).
Your system seems to work well. That is how it should work. Congrats.

Thanks for testing. This is the first test report and it confirms in what bad conditions my brakes are working (or not working)
I hope Mike can confirm Sam's findings.

Martin, @werminghausen

I have a question, when I was looking at buying the booster/master cylinder assembly, I saw one on Ebay that was made in China, it was around $850, but it had a warning saying "relieve pressure before installing", would you know what that means and if so how to relieve the pressure?

I now can't find it again.

I didn't buy it, I bought an OEM assembly, which should be here on Friday.

I also received my scanner on Tuesday, turned it on and updated it but haven't had time to check it out yet.

So mine is pretty similar to Sam's except the motor runs at 2 or 3 pumps of the brakes. Then the 3-5 seconds pump on to keep pressurized. The alarm never goes off no matter how much I pump it but it has in the past. It went off when I blew a brake line and when I had a brake pad seize in the caliper. For the latter, it would only go off if pumped a bunch and I had a super squishy pedal as the pad was pushing the cylinders back in when I let go of the pedal.

One thing about my 220k+ unit is that it is super quiet. I have to listen hard to hear it and local traffic noise would make me miss the sound.

Hi Au
I don't see any reason to buy an unknown Chinese Unit. Good that you bought the Toyota Unit.
In order to relief pressure from the (old) system, before installation of the new unit) just push the brake 20-40 times with the key off . Or you disconnect the red pressure line from the brake pump /accumulator to the master cylinder. the pressurized fluid will push out. That will release all pressure as well.

Thanks Martin,

I knew to do the 40 pumps to relieve the pressure from the old unit before removing, I was puzzled by the eBay auction because it was worded as if you had to relieve the pressure from the new unit before installing it.

Thanks Mike,
Your motor comes on every 2-3 times you hit the brake. That is quite a difference to Sam's 5-10 times.
You also cannot trigger the alarm but you mentioned that you could trigger the alarm in the past when you had a problem with a seized brake pad that worked like a big spring pushing the brake piston way back... that would be like if you had a lot of air in the system... meaning the master brake cylinder has to pump much more fluid each time you hit the brake.
Interesting and I fear I am having some similar issue with my brake calipers/pads.

I am assuming your brake calipers /brake pads are fine now? and still you have the brake motor much earlier (2-3 times) than Sam (5-10 times).
How squishy is your brake now?

Martin

Now that I am hyper-sensitive to my brakes, I counted the number of stops before the pump came on. It was a lot closer to 5 than 10. Pump came on for a couple of seconds. I'm still satisfied with brake operation. I was just kidding about being hyper-sensitive, lol.

Brakes are fine now, yes to both. Only a bit of squish but close to the best they've ever been but certainly not as good as my much newer Sienna. Those brakes are amazing.
