Why are 2008s and 2009s seemingly hard to find?
It may just me be, but I rarely see an 08 or, especially, an 09 for sale. Anyone else notice this or is it just me?

They only sold 19k in 2009 and 47k in 2008
VS 103k for 2006 and 2005

Mine is an '09 Urban Runner and I couldn't be happier, it's like bullet proof and purrs like cat, but it's also low mileage 108K, and despite a salvage title, no signs of salvage performance.

Hadn’t thought of that, makes sense tho. Lower production.

Dear goodness that’s a steep drop off. I know someone else mentioned that was during the Great Recession. Wonder how many were produced in 2008 and 2009 compared to other years.

I’ve got an 08 sr5 v6. Less numbers and they all still work great explains it.
I wonder if it’s the same thing for the fj cruisers. I pretty much only see 07s for sale. Really hard to find 2012-2014 except for brand new prices

Yep, that and fuel economy with the spike of gas prices back then.
You'll see that many competitors were shortly discontinued or went crossover around that time and soon after - 2009-2013ish.
Ex: Pathfinder, Explorer, Trailblazer, Sorento, Durango...
I think a big shame was the Kia Borrego. They dropped a BOF three-row that seemed pretty neat on the market smack in the middle of 2008 and yanked it after a year. (two for Canada)
I heard they sold only ~22k of 'em in the US, so maybe the next time you see one you can imagine it as a 2009 4Runner sighting.
That and the last years of the standard multi-mode transfer case before it went Limited only is probably a big draw.

As previously noted, 2009 was the lowest sales year for 4Runner since 1985. People weren't spending $30-40k on an SUV with $4/gas and housing crash. I guess I'm lucky like Urbanite, I also have a 2009 Urban Runner.

Good point. That was a tough time for me so I can understand. I think I was driving a 91 Geo prism at the time.
