Cardone HD premium CV axles

I just thought I would share and let everybody know about my experience with these CV axles. I ordered a Cardone CV axle with the heavy duty boot from rock auto as a replacement for my drivers side since I recently tore my outer boot and heard others have had good luck with them and figured for $70 why not.

Installed today and everything went smooth until I put the wheel back on and tried to spin it while the truck was still on the lift, the wheel only spun about a quarter of the way around and wouldn't move anymore because the cv was binding. So the I lowered the truck and put it in neutral and slowly rolled the truck back and forth fine with no issues or noises. Then while driving and getting on the gas a little had a vibration from 25-30 mph and then when making a left hand turn or even turning left slightly I had a much worse vibration.

So my take is that these don't have the same travel as the stock CV's or aren't the same exact length and easily bind on a lifted set up and if their binding and acting like this on road while I'm in two wheel drive , their going to snap in 2 seconds on the trail! I'm having my stock CV re greased and re booted and it will be going back on ASAP. For me in the future it's going to be only OEM CV's, their the strongest anyways! I'm sure for a stock application the CV axles will be more than good, it's just for those of us who are lifted with the already extra added angle on the CV's these are no good.

I had the same issues with cardone. Only good for non lift application. They are now just my trail spares.

This was a long battle I went through with my lift - even with OEM axles.

The aftermarket axles simply do not have the same shape inner joint as the OEM does and allows for even less articulation. If the truck was stock and not lifted these axles may be OK for normal road use, but can not be used with lifted setups.

Has anyone had a positive experience with them? I have bought a pair but not installed them yet.

I've had one on my passenger side for over a year now and never had an issue. Just bought one for the drivers side as the original finally is done. Maybe I'm not running enough lift to mess with them or something..

I've been running them as long as I've been wheeling pretty much with no issues. Extended travel coilovers and aftermarket upper control arms. Austin had pretty much the same issues as NYC though. Looks like hit or miss. I'm not maxed out on my lift height either though and he was, so that probably makes a difference. The only times I experience extreme droop is at slow speed.

So far so good with mine. I'm lifted ~2.5".
They've been on for a few months now, and on the trail 4 or 5 times.
I'll update if anything changes.

Thanks for the replies. Looks like it's an issue of lift height. I should be ok I think with my setup.

I have had the Cardone Select 66-5235 on my passenger side for 2 years now without any problems. I have Bilstein 5100s set at 2.5" in the front.

I spoke to my buddy who has ran them and wheeled them in the past without issue as well but it seems that recently more and more people have been having issues with them. So i'm thinking they've changed something up more recently that creating this issue ? I'm not maxed out up front either i'm probably at about 3" plus a 1" Diff drop. I'm probably around the same lift hight as you @Superman 3034.

I brought my CV to this place near me and they repacked it and re booted it for $50 and it's good as new. I re installed it on Monday and all is well again! I also bought a heavier long travel boot from All Pro Offroad that works great for rebooting the outer boot so it should hold up much better then the original stock boots. I think for the future im just going to look for some OEM junkyard cv axles and bring them to this place to have them re built for $50 and keep them as spares.

I'm running a ~3 inch lift with cordone's an not a problem yet. I have't been heavy wheeling with them yet though. Hope I don't run into the same issue.

Exclamation

Hey all. On my 4th gen 4wd v8 4runner I was on OME 90000 and 2886 springs and had no grinding. I just upgraded to Apache AX2 at the 1" perch with the 2886 springs. Now I'm grinding under heavy acceleration.

I'm running CARDONE HD's. In y'alls opinion, should I swap out the Cardone for some OEMs I have chilling in a box? Do you think that would solve my grinding?
