Is there an airbag in my seat?
I have an 07 limited with side curtain airbags. My leather seats also have the small tag. However when I recovered my front passenger seat I do not recall seeing the airbag and for sure there was no pouch in the cover like I've seen on youtube. So what gives? Is there an airbag in there or is side curtain only deployed from the pillars?
Thanks

Pretty sure the airbag is under the foam. So unless you remove the foam, you wouldn't see it.

I thought the airbag was above the door frame but the tag to indicate an airbag was on the seat

There are yellow airbag wiring harness connectors under the seats that plug into the seat themselves.

So if it's under the foam is there any reason to be concerned about installing a new cover? I only ask because some covers say the "airbag pouch" should be transferred by a professional but that looks like the ones that are stored in a pouch in the cover.

I recovered my seats with new leather and didn't have issues with the airbags.
Back of the driver seat without the cover, you can see the yellow airbag wire leading up to the airbag on the left side.
Front of the same seat.

the seat air bag isn't in the bottom portion, it's in the side bolster of the upper half in the general area of where your factory cover reads the SRS tag. When you do seat re-covers you don't mess with the air bag, but one thing to be cautious of is making sure your new covers are rated for the bag. It basically (from what I gather) has a stitched seam that will give way if the air bag deploys.
What I found with my cheaper covers is that I didn't have the same additional tab from the seat cover that runs and bolts to the back of the seat frame that is meant to hold the seat cover taught while the stitching gives way. I installed it anyway

Who did you use for your covers?

leatherseats.com covers. They are made specifically for the 4runner and have the proper airbag stitching.
Forgot I had this picture. Drivers seat frame without foam. You can see the airbag on the back frame.
Finished seat, minus the headrest.
Installed, before I recovered the pass seat for comparison.

Those looks nice! How difficult is it to remove and replace the cover? My drivers seat foam keeps getting louder and would love to take the cover off to see what’s making them so loud. I assume it’s the old foam rubbing on the metal springs?

Not super difficult. You will need hog rings, a hog rings pliers and good snips to cut the old hog rings off. I think I used either tin snips or was able to do it with regular wire cutters. If you have seat heaters, you need to be careful as they can stick to the covers on the front seats.
