Fuel tank skid

Just wondering if the stock gas tank skid is needed. My wifes 2007 is on its last leg. Trying to stretch it until the end of the year to buy a new car. The skid is rusted badly and is split in 3-4 sections. Thinking of taking it off before it flies out and hit someone behind. No off roading , just point a-b vehicle.

If it's looking like it's seen better days and you're not hitting the off-road trails, it might be a good call to take it off to avoid any unexpected flying parts. If you're not hitting the trails, the main job of the skid is to protect your gas tank from potential impacts. But if the skid itself is a hazard because of its condition, it might make sense to strategically take it off. Just be sure to thoroughly check the tank and related parts for any issues.

Rip it off. I pulled mine a few years ago because it was turning into a cracker.

Be sure to check the condition of your fuel tank straps as they could be in bad shape as well.
It wasn't until I took my tank skid off that I realized it was holding the tank in place as the straps were shot.

If you aren't taking the vehicle off road, then you don't really need any of the skid plates on the underside.
