2007 4.7 power loss?

Greetings team. Long time member, 4th 4Runner (1997, 2004, 2017, 2007).

Just purchased the below a few weeks ago. All maintenance below was done to get a baseline. I’m not new to working on vehicles, but am by no means an expert.

Vehicle: 2007 4.7 4wd 146000 miles

Maintenance this past weekend. All fluid weight (amsoil used) and spark plugs per manufacturer recommendations. Spark plugs bought from local advanced auto.

Saturday
- front and rear differential drain and fill
- transfer case drain and fill
- engine oil drain and fill
(All straightforward, no issues)
- transmission drain and fill: messed up temp check procedure but fixed prior to driving (forgot to ensure vehicle was on when in temp range)

Sunday
- spark plugs changed (didn’t check gap but were supposed to be gauged, all coils “popped” on, double checked all vacuum lines secured)
- MAF cleaned (MAF cleaner used)
- throttle body cleaned (TB cleaner used. Didn’t remove, manually moved butterfly)
- removed the top layer filter in engine air filter housing (can’t remember name)
- disconnected battery for about 5 minutes once complete

- Upon initial start after Sunday maintenance, car cranked for several seconds and didn’t start. Cranked again and started. No starting issues since.
- Very high idle initially, ~1800-2000. Normal from what I can gather. Idle worked its way down since and is in normal operating range. - - - Engine sounds fine (minus the whine from a tensioner pulley or alternator, will change that in the coming weeks), no knocking/ misfire, etc.
- Monitoring gas mileage but no noticeable change.

Problem: Not sure if it’s in my head but the vehicle just doesn’t seem to have any power now. It feels slow, not as responsive, and doesn’t seem to have the same low end torque.

- How long does it take for the computer to reset?
- Anything I could have missed/ messed up? If “problem” is still present this weekend I guess I’ll pull the plugs and verify the gap.

I don’t remember this being an issue on my 04’ when I did the same exact reset maintenance.

Thanks for your time and input.

Kody

Your Sunday stuff is normal when the computer is reset. It won't take long for the computer to relearn. Drive it like you stole it so it will remember those parameters.

Double check the vacuum lines especially the one that runs under the intake manifold on the rt front corner. I would change the PCV valve. I didn't see it on your list of changed parts. I would just bet on it not being changed prior.

Also go onto toyota's website, go under the "owners" tab and enter your vin. It will give you any work done by toyota since new. It's not necessary but sometimes it's interesting what's been done.

Thanks inscarguy. PCV is waiting at the dealer for me to pick up, just haven’t had time. Good call on the Toyota website.

My buddy said the same thing about vacuum lines, so I’ll be checking those for a third time. Going to be real upset with myself if I missed one of them twice.

I’ve been driving it a little harder than normal, so I’ll keep that up until this weekend and reassess from there.
