Dash back light comes on when braking + rear hatch light flickering

My dash back light (NOT parking brake light) comes on every single time I brake. Anyone had any issues with this?

Also, just noticed today that the door ajar warning light flickers when I drive, and I found out it's coming from the rear hatch. If I open and close it, it turns off, but continues on flickering as I drive. I did just recently hammer the metal latch slightly towards the front of the vehicle (a recommendation i found on this, or some other toyota forum), as I was having some rattling from the hatch. Which solved the rattling issue mostly, but now the light is flickering, which means I can't lock my doors if I don't get out and open and shut the hatch.

Any ideas?

Can you pack the switch, or the area it strikes on the door, out with something so it makes firm contact?

That's worth a try. Some sort of tape maybe? I'll give that a shot and see what happens. Thanks

Not sure if a dying battery would cause this. I had flickering dash lights that seemed to happen as my brake was pressed happen as well.

I replaced a brake switch, battery, third brake bulb and removed my amp all around the same time so any could have been my gremlin.

get the alternator tested, bad alternator does this also, even with good battery voltage.

Did the dash back light start doing this when you hammered the latch or was it doing this before the hammering?

Does having the headlights on have any impact on the dash back light when you step on the brake?

Yes I think something self-adhesive would do just as a quick 5 minute test. You could duct tape a penny or something, just to give it a bit of solidity and thickness.

To address these issues, you may want to consider taking your vehicle to a qualified mechanic or automotive electrician who can diagnose and repair specific electrical problems. They can inspect the brake light switch, wiring harnesses, and connections to identify any faults and make the necessary repairs to ensure the proper operation of your vehicle's electrical system. That's Not My Neighbor
