I am assuming the tighter weather strips will keep the debris and bio mass from trees outside the inner cavity of the rear hatch and thus avoid the flooding of the hatch lock and ECU-electronics.

Awesome, that will keep the debris out.
Did you open up the hatch an clean the drain inserts?
Water can still get passed the outer weather strip and inside the hatch which is normal just not as much as before and if the drain inserts are clogged the water can't drain out.
