Hood Swap

Does anyone know if its possible to swap the 1999 plain hood from a 4Runner Limited for the hood with the scoop in it. I think it was the Sport model. Are they the same hood demention wise?

You can by and aftermarket replacement hood with the scoop for about $250. I have heard they don't line up right????

If you are willing to lay out the dough, it can happen. Don't hold your breath waiting for someone to trade. It cost me $1K to do mine.

So beings that you spent that much I would guess you had to rework the whole front end to make it fit?

Thats a sharp looking rig by the way

So other than having a scoop in it what is the big difference that makes it not fit right? They look the same.

It's a complete hood swap. not just swaping the scoop over and making your own hole on your old hood. No work required, other than a few nuts and bolts to get the old hood off and new one on.

I bought my 99 Limited with a 2002 Sport scooped hood and 2002 Sport grill installed. The prior owner did the whole thing for about $700 (including color matching the grill).

The lines look great to me and the hood appears to fit like stock. I don't know if there were and modifications done, but the front quarter panels were not replace and are the original 99 version.

That's Andy's old truck isn't it? Very distinct look and a very nice Runner.

A 3rd gen hoods will fit on all 3rd gens period with no modifications.

I love the scoop......

Yes it is. x3 He put it together nice. It's fun to drive and seems to go just about anywhere.

The scoop is a great look.

Thanks guys I did catch that his rig was newer but I had still heard that some people had to replace front quarter panels. But it sounds like thats not the case. It looks like I'll be ordering a new hood this weekend.

Now my next question is, Is it worth cutting a hole to make the scoop functional. I would think the cold are would be benificial on my supercharger and top end?

Mine is closed. I'm not sure how functiontal it will be beyond providing a vent to lower the engine compartment temps. I would be worried about rain, snow, dirt, etc. getting in the compartment.

Just my 2 cents.

Making it functional isn't worth the trouble with the minimal gains if any you'd actually see and not tto mention the crap that will collect in your engine bay.

I called my dealer and he quoted me a little over $170 for the scoop insert and hardware and most people I know that do the 3rd gen scoop for about $600-700 including paint.

Where'd you get your prices sicne that's the highest I've ever heard......or are you talking 4th gen hood?

I didn't include the underhood insulation since most can mod the existing insulation to fit the sport hood.
