Setting Up Homelink w/New Garage Door Opener

Put in a new garage door opener (a Chamberlain B4505T). Was able to set up remotes and exterior keypad. But when it came time to do the same for my 2007 4-Runner I just wasn't able to.

There are instructions and manuals and video "how-to"s all over the internet...I've already read, viewed, and tried them all so I don't need to be pointed to them or have the obvious restated. Or using other technology, e.g. IFTTT.

Mostly I am posting to see if anyone with same model year (or close enough) has been able to accomplish this with a new Chamberlain (or any brand?) garage door opener. If so, then open to discussing...

I spent an hour trying to set it up with a new Liftmaster opener (same company as Chamberlain). I couldn't get it to work. I don't think the latest opener security protocol is compatible with the old Homelink in 4th gens. I believe there are different versions of Homelink over the years, and presumably the newer ones have better compatibility with new openers.

That said, when I previously programmed it to older rolling code openers, the process was time consuming and frustrating even if it did eventually work. It's possible that it might work if you happen to do it just right.

press the learn button at the opener once,

then run to the truck and press and hold the button to program.

maybe there is a new adapter/ converter ?

Same here. I think the rest of your post/analysis is probably correct was well. Frustrating!

You left out the 30-second time limit :--) As mentioned, I've tried everything that might be easily found on internet.

Yes, there is some sort of "bridge" for certain opener/car combinations...I was really hoping to avoid having to buy one more PoS piece of technology that probably doesn't work but lines someone's pocketbook while giving Chamberlain and their ilk cover "it's not us, it's them. Or you. But definitely not us!".

I think the bridge is just a receiver that uses the older less secure signal. So it effectively downgrades the security of your garage.

Yeah, probably, although it's anyone's guess how secure it was in the first place, or is now. One thing I am willing to bet on is that after they get my money, Chamberlain doesn't give rat's a$$ whether or not my garage is secure.

And the abysmal MyQ app that provides interface for Wi-Fi functionality of the unit is worthless, since it wouldn't install to my phone and even when anyone does get it to install, apparently ~80% of users say it's garbage.

I had a 2010 Mazda Mx-5 with Homelink that I could not get to work with my Liftmaster 8500 - it definitely was related to the older version of Homelink installed in that car. I never tried to set it up with my '05 T4R because I assumed it wouldn't work - not even sure that it has Homelink installed. It does work well with the Homelink in my 2017 Camry. FYI - the MyQ app works great too but I do have the gateway module installed. Not sure if that came with the opener or I had to buy it separate.
