Spark plug fouler trick - long term?
Hi,
So a couple years back I was battling it out with the p0420 code. Same song and dance - replace some o2 sensors, temporary relief. Using the spark plug fouler trick seemed to work! 2 years later, no codes.
My question though is what are the long term effects of doing this? My assumption is the p0420 code was probably related to a bad cat, so what happens if you keep running on a bad cat?
The reason I ask is because recently I have been getting a fuel smell in the engine bay and some in the cab. I'm looking at replacing the fuel injectors as a precautionary/maintenance item since the truck has 200k.
But could a clogged cat also result in fuel smell at idle? I also have a little tiny lag in power when coasting around 40-60mph when I reapply throttle, it seems like the engine spins up for just a moment before the power kicks in which makes it a bit jerky.
Any thoughts on the long term use of the fouler trick? I probably need to replace my ENTIRE exhaust system but thats likely 3 grand in parts and labor, no?
Thanks in advance -
