The dreaded frame crusties

Her 07 4Runner had been "maintained" by those who will not be mentioned to keep peace in the home. It has 150K miles, it's been an excellent truck. Parts put in this truck other than brakes less than a grand over the years.

Had to redo front calipers that left the brakes spongy beyond belief (did you know that some install one caliper without bleeding or flushing a system)?

Went with an OEM exhaust I caught at 25 off of list from the y pipe back, figuring if the first gave her 17 years, this one should be good till the truck fails and then........ (cue up the bass drums thumping).

Because the job went so well the gods had to show me a rust hole, fist sized in the chassis. Will wait for a friend who is a certified welder to point me in a direction that will lead to sucess. He does not have a lift but I hope can send me to someone in the Laurel Md area who does do clean work.

That is a big hole. You say chassis? Most often the term frame is used. Is the hole surrounded by rusty steel or surface rusted steel.
There has to be some solid steel to weld to, for a patch to hold. This schematic is about recrivers but is a nice overview of the frame. Can you identifty the fist size hole location?
Left side is front of runner.
