pwr window question

the driver's side window of my 04 makes a hard-click sound about 1/3 of the way down when lowering or about 2/3 the way up. It sounds like the glass is hitting something. The window does not rattle when open, but i can feel a bit of play front to back at the click point. My concern is that it may damage or break the glass eventually. Does anyone have any ideas? Thx.

I think I have read that when the door check(stop) gets worn out it can hit the window and or window regulator, you can check this by removing the door check temporarily and see if it still hits, if no hit then install a new door check.

Edit:I did a forum search on this, here's the results, there's couple of topic about the door checks.

My 2001 made a similar sound years ago, eventually followed by marks on the glass. Several screws holding the regulator had come loose, leading me to believe it had been removed some time before I bought it. Simply reinstalled the screws that had fallen out, and tightened all of them.

Mine does the same thing, however, the glass will completely become dislodged at times. Then we have to lift it and put it back into its track. I have it in the shop now being fixed. The glass has never broken but I suppose it would in time.
